The DR Strategy Consultancy (DRSC) team is an integral part of the SXDR organization. DRSC is led by Strategy Consultancy Manager, DSR. The role of Senior Strategy Consultant sits in the DRSC organization. This team supports all Downstream & Renewables (DSR) Lines of Business by partnering closely with the DSR Strategy & Portfolio Leadership Team (SXDRLT), which includes 1 * VP, 5 * Strategy GMs, 1 * Portfolio Manager and 1 * Strategy Consultancy Manager. The team delivers business value through strategic analysis, research, problem-solving, project management, and insight-driven storytelling.
The Senior Strategy Consultant leads the execution of strategy projects and research initiatives across DSR Line of Businesses. Operating within a flat structure, all consultants report directly to the Strategy Consultancy Manager, ensuring consistent delivery quality, accountability, and team development.
What’s the role?
As Sr. Strategy Consultant, DSR, you will be delivering projects and products that supports Shell’s senior leadership in the DSR businesses to drive decisions in line with the overall Shell’s strategy. You will be responsible for delivering ad-hoc deep dives on markets, industry and countries with a keen focus on the implications for Shell. These projects and products deliver sound, accurate, timely and fit-for-purpose insights that support strategic and commercial decision making. The Sr. Strategy Consultant – DSR will be a key contributor to 2-3 strategy platform initiatives to strengthen the engagement within DRSC & making SXDR a thriving community.
What you’ll be doing?
- Lead and deliver strategy projects, research studies, and transformation initiatives across Downstream and Renewables Business.
- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and business assessments to identify growth opportunities and strategic insights.
- Gather, analyze, and synthesize complex data into actionable recommendations and business cases.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of assigned workstreams, including scoping, planning, stakeholder engagement, analysis, and presentation of findings.
- Support portfolio management and strategic transformation programs.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners to drive collaboration and influence decision-making.
- Develop insights on industry trends, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, and energy transition opportunities.
- Contribute to financial modeling, business case development, and strategic planning activities.
- Collaborate effectively across global teams and functions, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Demonstrate agility in learning new topics and translating them into business value.
What we need from you?
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related field; MBA is preferred.
- 6 to 10 years of experience in strategy, consulting, business development, sales/marketing, finance, project delivery, or related disciplines within the DSR industry.
- Experience in one or more sectors, including Mobility & Convenience, Lubricants, Refining, Trading & Supply, Chemicals, Low Carbon Solutions, or Renewable Power.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive insights from complex data.
- Working knowledge of financial modeling, business case development, and commercial analysis.
- Understanding of energy markets, industry value chains, regulatory frameworks, and emerging energy technologies.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Consulting experience and direct exposure to energy or downstream businesses are highly desirable.
- Preference will be given for candidates with specific experience in unlocking value through Industrial and Functional/Process AI transformational programs within the DSR value chain.
