The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in construction estimating alongside the commercial instinct to identify opportunities, build client relationships, and close deals. This is not a desk-only role — it requires presence in the market, engagement with clients, and the drive to grow a book of business while maintaining the analytical rigor that keeps every bid competitive and every project profitable.
- Review project plans, specifications, and technical documents to determine scope of work.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Analyze drawings and other bid documents to identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather pricing and confirm scope.
- Assist in developing bid proposals and compiles all necessary documentation.
- Conduct market research to stay informed of current prices for materials and labor.
- Evaluate and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Identify potential risks or uncertainties that could impact costs or project timelines.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bid documents, changes, and correspondence.
- Support the negotiation process with clients and subcontractors.
Sales & Business Development
- Prospect and develop new client relationships through cold calling, networking, referrals, and industry events.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the sales and estimating process — from initial inquiry through bid submission and award.
- Present proposals and cost estimates to clients in a compelling, clear, and professional manner that builds confidence and drives decisions.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing client accounts and target markets.
- Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and provide regular forecasting to leadership.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and client meetings to expand the company’s market presence and network.
- Collaborate with project managers and leadership to align bid strategy with business development goals.
- Track and report on bid win rates, pipeline activity, and sales performance metrics.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships that generate repeat business and referrals.
- Follow up on submitted bids with urgency and professionalism to maximize win rate.
- Proven experience as an Estimator in construction, engineering, or a related industry.
- Candidate must have proven track record of successfully operating a multi-state or large territory.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage client relationships and drive new business.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and pricing, experience reading blueprints.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble, Procore) and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing cost estimates.
- Good understanding of contracts, legal requirements, and bidding procedures.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills — equally effective in a technical conversation and a client meeting.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates and sales opportunities simultaneously.

A Strong Plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field - Preferred
- Existing relationships with contractors, clients, or decision-makers in the local market.
- Experience with CRM tools for pipeline management and opportunity tracking.
- Track record of measurable sales performance — quota attainment, win rate, or revenue growth.
- Experience presenting proposals to senior client stakeholders and navigating complex buying decisions.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Proficiency with computers, including keyboarding and operating standard office software.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read detailed documents, blueprints, and screens.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and clients, which may involve extended meetings and client presentations.
- Ability to adjust focus between documents, computer screens, and tasks over long periods.
- Occasional travel to client sites, project locations, and industry events as required.
