This opportunity is suited to an experienced engineering leader who can provide technical direction, lead multidisciplinary teams, and help align engineering priorities with business, operational, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As the Vice President of Engineering, you will lead the Engineering function, establish the technical direction of the organization, and ensure engineering capabilities, processes, and priorities support corporate objectives and growth initiatives.
Engineering Leadership & Strategy
- Define and execute the Engineering strategy, operating model, and multi-year technical roadmap aligned with business objectives, customer commitments, and product priorities.
- Provide leadership across product development, systems engineering, project execution, design, sustaining engineering, field support, and engineering change management.
- Translate business, operational, and customer needs into practical engineering solutions and priorities.
- Serve as a senior technical resource for customers, suppliers, business partners, and internal stakeholders.
Project Delivery & Technical Excellence
- Support project scoping, equipment selection, site design considerations, and engineering decision-making within compressed timelines.
- Ensure engineering projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within established budgets, and in accordance with quality, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability requirements.
- Balance short-term project and customer commitments with long-term technology, platform, and capability development initiatives.
- Monitor industry trends, technologies, standards, and market developments to support innovation and continuous improvement.
Engineering Operations & Governance
- Establish and maintain engineering processes, project frameworks, deliverables, schedules, budgets, accountability measures, and escalation procedures.
- Maintain engineering standards, design controls, documentation practices, configuration management processes, and technical decision records.
- Oversee applicable certification and regulatory approval activities, including compliance with ABSA processes and other relevant Canadian, provincial, and industry requirements.
- Structure and maintain reporting related to project status, risks, resource requirements, decisions, and customer-impacting issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Field Service, HSE, and other business functions to manage risk, address corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
- Support customer-facing and commercial activities by providing technical input for proposals, solution design, feasibility reviews, scope development, and product positioning.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, supplier, customer, and field environments to support business objectives.
People Leadership
- Lead the Engineering function and its leadership team by establishing clear goals, accountabilities, decision rights, and operating rhythms.
- Develop organizational structures, workforce plans, and succession plans that support the company's growth objectives.
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain engineering leaders and technical professionals.
- Contribute as a member of the leadership team and partner closely with the Vice President of Design and other senior leaders.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Advanced degree considered an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada.
- Alberta P.Eng. registration preferred where applicable.
- Minimum 15 years of engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex product, equipment, or engineering programs.
- Experience developing engineering strategy and delivering projects or products within budget, schedule, customer, and regulatory requirements.
Technical Skills
- Strong technical background in natural gas fueling, pressure regulation equipment, gas systems, packaged equipment, industrial equipment, or a closely related industry.
- Knowledge of applicable engineering standards and regulatory requirements, including ABSA, CSA, ASME, provincial, and related industry standards.
- Experience with engineering project execution, systems development, quality management, and technical governance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts and business considerations to diverse audiences.
Preferred Experience
- Experience leading engineering organizations through growth, transformation, integration, or operating model changes.
- Experience with natural gas fueling infrastructure, compression systems, pressure regulation equipment, mobile or modular equipment, or alternative fuel technologies.
