With more than 30,000 fuel cell modules deployed worldwide, we are the trusted partner for Fortune 100 companies and innovators alike. Our cutting-edge solutions enable unparalleled “time-to-power” capabilities, reliability, and sustainability, ensuring our customers remain ahead in a world where soaring energy demand and intensifying energy scarcity are rapidly becoming the new norm.

At Bloom, we thrive on collaboration, bold thinking, and relentless innovation. We believe that, together, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future while tackling the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.

We are looking for a Mechanical Facilities Engineer to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies.  This role will report to the VP, Global Facilities and will be based in Fremont, CA.  This is a fully on-site, 5 days in office role.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Drive operation, maintenance, and optimization of facility mechanical systems serving cleanroom and manufacturing environments.
  • Lead and support the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical systems for U.S. Greenfield/Brownfield projects, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and high-quality project execution.
  • Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, standards, and procedures for mechanical systems including HVAC, exhaust and abatement systems, vacuum systems, process chilled water, natural gas, and central utility systems.
  • Collaborate with global, regional, and site partners across Facilities, Manufacturing, Construction, Procurement, IT, Operations, EHS and external partners to achieve project objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance of design reviews, construction activities, change management processes, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Support capacity planning, infrastructure assessments, and scenario modeling to ensure facilities systems meet current and future manufacturing requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by finding opportunities to enhance system performance, reliability, energy efficiency, sustainability, and total cost of ownership.
  • Serve as a mechanical systems authority, providing technical guidance, problem-solving support, benchmarking, and lessons learned across Bloom’s global network.
  • Support facility commissioning, qualification, and startup activities for new equipment, utilities, and building infrastructure.
  • Monitor facility performance metrics, utility consumption, and system efficiency to identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, environmental regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Contribute to global facilities programs, sustainability initiatives, and the development of standards, specifications, and Best Known Methods (BKMs) to promote consistency and operational excellence.
  • Travel up to 25% as needed to support facilities projects, supplier meetings, and other company locations.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10-12+ years of experience supporting facilities engineering, mechanical systems, utilities, or industrial infrastructure within manufacturing, semiconductor, energy, pharmaceutical, or technology environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water systems, boilers, pumps, piping systems, compressed air, plumbing, process utilities, and building mechanical infrastructure.
  • Experience designing, operating, and maintaining critical facility and utility systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects, contractor activities, equipment installations, and commissioning efforts.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, reliability engineering, preventive maintenance methodologies, and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems, building management systems (BMS), and facility monitoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements, safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience supporting sustainability, energy efficiency, and utility optimization initiatives.
  • Strong project management, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or other relevant certifications are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk manufacturing, laboratory, and utility areas for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, mezzanines, and mechanical equipment areas as required.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work around industrial equipment and facility infrastructure.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to respond to facility emergencies and support after-hours maintenance or outage activities when required.
