Description
Key Responsibilities:
- PCB/PCBA Quality: Oversee the quality and reliability of printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies throughout manufacturing, assembly, testing, and final inspection.
- Test Plan Development & Execution: Develop, execute, review, and redline detailed test plans and procedures for PCB and electronic assemblies. Identify gaps, edge cases, and failure modes in test coverage.
- Electronics Debugging: Troubleshoot PCB and electronic assembly failures at the component, board, and system level using schematics, test equipment, and diagnostic methods to identify root causes.
- Automated & Manual Testing: Develop and execute both manual and automated test procedures for electronic hardware. Write or modify test scripts to support functional testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Test Equipment & Software: Utilize laboratory equipment and software tools such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, electronic loads, and LabVIEW or Python-based test/automation tools.
- Failure Analysis & Root Cause: Investigate failed boards and assemblies, perform root-cause analysis, and work with engineering and manufacturing teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Manufacturing & CM Support: Work directly with contract manufacturers and internal production teams to address PCB/PCBA quality issues, manufacturing defects, test failures, and process-related problems.
- Incoming & In-Process Inspection: Develop and perform inspection and test procedures for incoming components, PCB assemblies, and work-in-process hardware to verify compliance with engineering requirements.
- Engineering Collaboration: Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, systems, manufacturing, and test engineers to resolve hardware quality issues and improve product reliability.
- Nonconformance / MRB Support: Review and disposition nonconforming PCB assemblies and components, support MRB activities, and work with engineering and manufacturing to determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Customer & Supplier Quality: Support customer-facing quality activities and communicate technical quality issues, corrective actions, and test results to customers and external partners when required.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of test results, inspection data, failures, corrective actions, and quality investigations. Create clear technical reports and communicate findings to engineering and management.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring PCB and manufacturing issues and implement improvements to test processes, manufacturing processes, inspection methods, and quality controls.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in PCB/PCBA quality engineering, electronics manufacturing, hardware test, electronics validation, or a closely related field.
- PCB/Electronics Experience: Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and debugging electronic assemblies and working with schematics, PCB layouts, components, and electronic test equipment.
- Test Experience: Experience developing, executing, and troubleshooting hardware test plans and procedures, including both manual and automated testing.
- Programming/Automation: Experience writing or modifying test scripts using Python, LabVIEW, or a similar programming/automation environment.
- Manufacturing Experience: Experience working with PCB/PCBA contract manufacturers, electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers, or other external manufacturing partners.
- Quality Tools: Experience with root-cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, nonconformance management, MRB, and quality documentation.
- Test Equipment: Proficiency with common electronic laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and signal/function generators.
- Standards: Familiarity with quality standards and electronics manufacturing practices, including IPC standards, ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality systems.
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Experience supporting aerospace, propulsion, defense, or other high-reliability electronics.
- Experience working directly with contract manufacturers on PCB/PCBA quality, manufacturing issues, and corrective actions.
- Experience with LabVIEW and/or Python-based automated hardware testing.
- Experience debugging complex electronic systems involving processors, sensors, power electronics, RF components, or other high-performance hardware.
- Experience with MRB, PSR, nonconformance reports, supplier corrective actions, and customer quality issues.
- Familiarity with IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC-6012, or other PCB/PCBA manufacturing and inspection standards.
- Experience developing automated test fixtures, test scripts, or hardware/software interfaces.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma, or other quality certification is a plus.
