JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for a wide range of work across EH&S disciplines, primarily focused on ensuring safety compliance through inspections, documentation, and training to reduce risk within the organization, promote contractor safety and foster safe laboratory operations.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Proactively audits safety equipment and documentation to ensure that facilities are current and to code with Cal OSHA/ EPA and other regulatory guidelines and have implemented the recommendations resulting from inspections by the County or other authorities; Supports site internal/external/regulatory audits.
· Implements and oversees inspection policies and procedures put in place by EH&S leadership.
· Organizes and maintains material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for all buildings across the campus.
· Supports EH&S leadership in evaluating EH&S risks associated with new or changing laboratory equipment and/or processes to ensure sufficient controls are identified and implemented.
· Procures personal protective equipment and other safety equipment to support new processes and equipment.
· Executes tasks in support of EH&S programs with general direction and guidance from the EH&S Leader, program managers and stakeholders. The work may include inspections, assessments, program audits, incident investigations, data reporting, monitoring, and report submissions.
· Engages site functional teams and leadership to prioritize initiatives and resources to achieve EH&S objectives; Coordinate with outside vendors for site services as required.
· Provides fundamental overview of safety expectations for all third-party vendors and contractors to ensure that they perform their work in a safe manner consistent with Teknova safety programs.
· Drives development, advancement, and implementation of EHS programs and procedures; Serves as a subject matter expert and administrator for assigned programs.
· Responds to departmental inquiries and concerns in a timely manner while providing quality resolution.
· Organizes, documents, monitors, and reports status on all projects on a weekly or other basis as requested.
Requirements
EDUCATION
· Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or engineering discipline. Or 7 to 10 years of working experience in a hazardous material manufacturing environment
· Certified in OSHA Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry or be willing to take steps to gain required certification
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
· Possess a strong understanding of safety principals, Cal OSHA / EPA standards, laboratory safety programs, and key processes such as risk assessment, inspections, audits and root cause investigations
· Ability to independently assess safety risks and programs and communicate/collaborate with EH&S leadership and senior management on appropriate risk control measures
· Demonstrate working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements and guidelines associated with health and safety
· Good interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
· Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, carry, push and use both hands when performing assigned duties
