As part of the Office of Strategic Initiatives, the Project Manager 4 responsibilities include:
1. Lead and Manage Complex Projects: oversee all phases of the project management lifecycle (from discovery and initiation through planning, execution, monitoring, and close). Coordinate across internal teams, vendors, and senior stakeholders to ensure delivery on scope, schedule, and budget.
2. Drive Program-Level Planning, Budgeting, and Business Case Development: Lead the development and ongoing management of business cases, budget proposals, and financial tracking for multi-year programs. Work collaboratively with Finance, HR, IT and leadership to ensure accurate labor, consulting, and non-salary cost representations while maintaining fiscal accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
3. Facilitate Stakeholder Alignment, Governance, and Decision-Making: Serve as the primary point of coordination between project sponsors, functional leadership, and technical teams to define scope, resolve issues, and communicate status. Facilitate working sessions and governance reviews — including roles and responsibilities alignment meetings — to ensure stakeholders are informed and decisions are escalated and resolved in a timely manner.
4. Develop and Improve Project Management Standards, Tools, and Methodologies: Contribute to the design and refinement of project management frameworks at Yale. Evaluate and apply emerging best practices, including AI-augmented project management tools, to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of project delivery across the portfolio.
5. Produce Executive-Level Reporting: Prepare and deliver project/program status reports, performance analyses, and updates for senior leadership. Synthesize complex project data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations, ensuring transparency and accountability at the program and portfolio level.
6. Mentor Staff and Support Communities of Practice: Provide guidance, coaching, and consultation on methodology, tools, and delivery approaches. Support the PM's Communities of Practice (PM CoP) by sharing subject matter expertise and contributing to the professional development of the broader project management community at Yale. Oversees and directs contractors as needed.
Required Skills and Abilities

5. PMP Certification
Principal Responsibilities
1. Lead multiple complex projects; oversee and manage the planning, implementation, communication, tracking and reporting. 2. Work with business leadership to define scope. Advise and assist senior staff and/or other clients in the formulation of project budget, project fiscal management. 3. Responsible for the full range of the project management lifecycle: discovery initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling, and closing. 4. Lead the design and development of project plans and interact regularly with project sponsors, stakeholders, project teams and others in completion of the work and communicating status. 5. Review progress of projects and recommend and support improvement strategies where needed. 6. Provide expertise and consulting to project managers and other units in project management methodology. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree and seven years of experience or equivalent education and experience. Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software, and equipment. Thorough knowledge of IT project management principles (e.g., Agile) and software. Well-developed analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Well-developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
