Lead Software Engineer - Big Data

Job Description:

Role : Lead Software Engineer – Palantir Skywise / Big Data

Number of positions : 1 

Qualification & Experience: 

As a Lead Big Data Developer, you will drive technical excellence across the Airbus Skywise ecosystem (built on the Big Data Apache Spark framework/Lightweight architecture). You will be responsible for defining technical standards, establishing best practices, and enforcing "Golden Rules" across the codebase.

In this role, you will lead and implement end-to-end (E2E) optimization topics, perform deep-technology root cause analysis, conduct source code audits, and mentor team members. Working in an international, distributed team, you will collaborate directly with European business partners and customers using Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Experience & Education

Education: Graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

Overall Experience: 7+ years of total IT experience.

Skywise Expertise: 4+ years of hands-on experience exclusively in Palantir Skywise development.

Support/Customer Experience: Minimum 3 years in a customer-facing support or service role (specifically working with European customers).

Technical Skills

Big Data & Frameworks: Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark, PySpark (Mandatory), and Spark SQL.

Lightweight Data Processing: Practical experience with lightweight engines such as Polars and DuckDB.

Skywise Ecosystem: Deep familiarity with Skywise application building tools: Workshop, Slate, and Object Explorer / Foundry Ontology.

Programming Languages: Proficient in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript (required for Slate and Workshop/front-end application building), Java, and Scala.

Databases & Querying: Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database systems.

Version Control & Practices: Solid experience with Git versioning, CI/CD, and enterprise-scale software delivery.

Exposure to SAP / ERP platforms is a strong plus.

Familiarity with Pandas is a plus.

Methodology & Soft Skills

Proven background working within Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or XP).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities -
Technical Leadership

• Understand complex business processes and the technical architecture of the Airbus application portfolio.

• Lead, design, and implement scalable, reliable, end-to-end (E2E) performance optimization solutions on Skywise.

• Define and enforce technical best practices, Golden Rules, and conduct thorough source code auditing.

• Perform deep-technology root cause analysis to resolve complex data pipeline and application issues.

• Design high-quality server-side processing architectures using Python, Java, and Scala to ensure code reusability and maintainability.

Team Mentorship & Stakeholder Management

• Mentor and guide development team members to build robust, easy-to-navigate code bases.

• Engage directly with European customers to gather requirements, manage expectations, and present technical deliveries.

• Act as a technical bridge between business requirements and Big Data execution and ensure quality products are delivered
