Analyzes the business needs of clients and stakeholders to help identify business problems and propose solutions. Performs a liaison function between the company and the providers of a service. Analyzes, communicates and validates requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems. Understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.
The Expert, Business Process Optimization serves as an internal Lean and process improvement consultant within the Transformation Office, driving the analysis, redesign, digitalization and sustainable optimization of transactional, administrative and cross-functional business processes. The role partners with stakeholders across the organization to improve efficiency, standardize work, eliminate waste and enable technology-driven transformation through Lean methodologies, process mining, automation and emerging AI-enabled solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead structured BPO projects targeting measurable reductions in process lead time, error rates, rework loops and approval cycle times within office functions.
- Design and facilitate end-to-end business process mapping workshops to map current-state office processes, expose waste and co-develop future-state process architectures with cross-functional teams.
- Conduct operational and statistical studies to identify current states and potential areas for process simplification, standardization and optimization.
- Apply process mining and data mining tools to extract, analyze and visualize actual process execution data from ERP and transactional systems, identifying bottlenecks, deviations and rework loops invisible to manual mapping.
- Identify, evaluate software and application improvements that eliminate manual steps, reduce toggling between systems and digitize paper-based or email-driven workflows.
- Partner with business stakeholders, IT and digital transformation teams to ensure optimized process designs are translated into clear business requirements for ERP (SAP), PLM, MES, workflow, and digital solutions.
- Provide process expertise, requirements, governance, and change management support to enable successful technology and automation initiatives while maintaining accountability with the appropriate business and technical owners.
- Monitor process effectiveness post-implementation, working with workstream leads to track improvement status, audit sustainability of changes and refine processes as needed using measurable metrics.
- Prepare and present reports to management outlining findings and actionable, data-driven recommendations.
- Design and deliver Lean training curriculum and develop a cross-divisional improvement community, coaching process owners, certifying internal practitioners in Lean office and digital process methods and sustaining an active BPO project pipeline.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to leverage AI, machine learning and intelligent automation technologies to improve business process performance, decision-making and user experience.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing recommendations, facilitation and change support to advance process transformation objectives.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related field.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) required; Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience applying Lean methodologies in automotive or manufacturing environments, including office and transactional processes.
- Tier 1 automotive supplier or OEM experience preferred, particularly within Operations, PC&L, Supply Chain, Procurement, Program Management, or Finance.
- Expert knowledge of process mapping methodologies (Makigami, Swim Lane, VSM, SIPOC) and structured problem-solving tools (DMAIC, A3, PDCA).
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP platforms in a process improvement, transformation, or analytics environment.
- Experience facilitating cross-functional workshops within global, matrixed organizations.
Digital & Analytics Aptitude:
- Working knowledge of process mining, data analytics, and visualization tools (Power BI or equivalent).
- Familiarity with workflow automation and RPA platforms (e.g., Power Automate, SAP Workflow, UiPath) and their application to process improvement.
- Understanding of AI/ML-enabled process improvement solutions, including intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and LLM-assisted workflows.
- Ability to assess business applications, identify optimization opportunities, and support digital transformation initiatives.
Governance & Methodology:
- Familiarity with IATF 16949 and APQC process governance frameworks.
- Knowledge of Agile and/or Waterfall project management methodologies is an asset.
Other:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders and present recommendations to leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Visio (or similar process mapping software), BPMN tools, and Power BI.
