Position Overview

LEMOINE is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager (PM) with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience to lead and manage complex energy storage infrastructure projects from project development through construction, commissioning, and closeout.

The Senior Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and project stakeholders while overseeing all aspects of BESS project execution, including scope management, scheduling, cost control, procurement, contract administration, risk mitigation, quality assurance, safety compliance, and successful delivery of energy storage systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing utility-scale or commercial/industrial BESS projects, including battery storage systems, power conversion systems (PCS), energy management systems (EMS), SCADA integration, electrical infrastructure, and EPC project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and owner's representative for assigned BESS projects.
  • Lead the full project lifecycle, including project planning, design coordination, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and milestone tracking.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams, EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Manage project activities related to battery systems, inverters/power conversion systems, transformers, switchgear, controls, and balance-of-system components.
  • Lead project meetings, progress reviews, executive briefings, and stakeholder communications.
  • Ensure all work complies with contractual requirements, safety standards, environmental requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Monitor project risks, identify potential issues, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Report major project challenges, findings, progress, and recommendations to ownership and senior leadership.
  • Oversee project closeout activities, including commissioning documentation, punch lists, testing results, turnover packages, and operational handoff.

Financial Oversight & Cost Control

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost forecasts, job cost reports, and financial tracking tools.
  • Review contractor proposals, estimates, and pricing for changes, modifications, and additional work.
  • Evaluate change orders, potential change orders, and cost impacts while ensuring alignment with project scope and contract requirements.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including invoices, pay applications, cash flow projections, and budget compliance.
  • Support contract negotiations, funding adjustments, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining project quality, safety, and schedule objectives.

Contract & Document Administration

  • Manage project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, RFPs, change orders, correspondence, schedules, and contract records.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of project agreements, scopes of work, specifications, and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with internal project controls, reporting requirements, quality standards, and documentation procedures.
  • Coordinate review and approval of technical documents, drawings, equipment specifications, and commissioning requirements.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Lead procurement activities for BESS equipment, subcontractors, and specialty vendors.
  • Manage equipment procurement schedules to support project milestones and avoid delays.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers regarding equipment availability, technical requirements, and delivery schedules.
  • Support project buyout activities and evaluate procurement strategies to reduce risk and optimize cost.
  • Manage relationships with EPC contractors, battery manufacturers, integrators, and key project vendors.

Commissioning & Technical Coordination

  • Support planning and execution of BESS commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate testing, startup, performance verification, and system acceptance activities.
  • Work with technical teams on integration of battery systems, PCS, EMS, SCADA, controls, and utility requirements.
  • Support compliance with applicable grid requirements, utility interconnection requirements, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate resolution of technical issues during installation, testing, and commissioning.

Team Leadership & Support

  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to Assistant Project Managers, project coordinators, and field personnel.
  • Support staffing, onboarding, and development of project team members.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement across project teams.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, Building Science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience managing complex construction, infrastructure, energy, or power projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), renewable energy, utility-scale energy, or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with EPC project delivery, owner representation, contractor management, and large-scale capital projects.

Preferred Skills

  • Proven ability to manage multi-million-dollar energy infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of BESS components, including battery systems, PCS/inverters, transformers, switchgear, EMS, SCADA, and controls integration.
  • Experience managing utility, commercial, industrial, or renewable energy storage projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, renewable energy integration, and utility interconnection processes.
  • Experience coordinating with EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, utilities, and engineering firms.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, project controls, scheduling, cost management, and contract administration.
  • Experience with commissioning and operational readiness activities.
  • Familiarity with applicable energy industry standards, safety requirements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish preferred.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • LEED AP
  • Relevant energy storage, renewable energy, or electrical certifications
  • Valid Driver's License

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position, with travel to project sites as required. Willingness to travel to project sites as needed (up to 50-75%).
  • The position is located onsite and may involve working in office and field environments, with a focus on construction sites.
  • Ability to work on-site and in potentially challenging outdoor conditions during installation and construction phases.
  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; make repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in the performance of daily duties; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
