Job Description
Shriners Children's Hawaii is seeking a PRN Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our pediatric orthopedic team. This position provides an excellent opportunity to practice in a collaborative, mission-focused environment dedicated exclusively to caring for children. The APP will work closely with pediatric orthopedic surgeons and other members of the care team to provide high-quality clinical care across both the outpatient clinic and inpatient settings.
The APP will primarily support pediatric orthopedic outpatient clinics and the inpatient floor, caring for children with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. A significant portion of the practice involves evaluating and managing acute injuries, including walk-in fracture patients. The APP will conduct comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, coordinate follow-up care, provide patient and family education, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and collaborate with physicians and ancillary staff to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.
This role offers a balance of autonomy and support. APPs will be expected to independently evaluate and manage straightforward orthopedic injuries, including simple fractures, while working in close collaboration with pediatric orthopedic surgeons who are readily available for consultation and guidance. Experience with casting and splinting is preferred; however, training can be provided for an otherwise qualified candidate who demonstrates a strong interest in orthopedic practice.
The schedule is based on departmental needs, with coverage primarily occurring during weekday clinic hours from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday clinic coverage will be expected 2-3 times per month. APPs can generally expect five to seven days' notice when shifts are available. There is no minimum shift commitment required to maintain PRN status, providing flexibility for qualified candidates seeking supplemental clinical opportunities.
Candidates with at least two years of advanced practice experience are strongly preferred. Experience in pediatric orthopedics, orthopedics, sports medicine, emergency medicine, urgent care, or a related clinical specialty is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to delivering compassionate, family-centered care in a collaborative pediatric healthcare environment.
