Description
About the Opportunity
JE Technology Solutions designs and manufactures custom engineered equipment for demanding aerospace and industrial applications, with a strong focus on aircraft maintenance platforms, access stands, work platforms, and related ground-support equipment. We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who wants to take technical ownership of challenging projects from concept through fabrication, testing, and field support.
This is not a desk-only design role. The right engineer will develop structural and mechanical solutions, perform engineering calculations and FEA, lead design reviews, release complete engineering packages, and work directly with welders, fabricators, assemblers, Quality, Program Management, and customers to turn the design into a successful finished product.
Direct aircraft-maintenance-platform experience is preferred but not required. We welcome strong candidates from aerospace ground-support equipment, launch/GSE systems, large mechanisms, industrial machinery, material handling, heavy equipment, amusement or ride systems, structural equipment, custom machine design, lifting/positioning systems, test equipment, defense manufacturing, and similar engineered-product environments.
What You Will Own
• Serve as the lead engineer and technical owner for assigned engineered-to-order projects.
• Translate customer and project requirements into practical mechanical and structural designs.
• Own technical decisions, engineering calculations, design integrity, and engineering deliverables from concept through closeout.
• Establish the engineering approach, identify required analyses, define design-validation methods, and resolve technical risks early.
• Lead design reviews and ensure designs are complete, manufacturable, and technically validated before release.
• Coordinate engineering execution with Program Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Safety, vendors, and customers.
• Support fabrication, assembly, testing, installation, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to less-experienced engineers and designers.
• Identify schedule, cost, quality, manufacturability, or safety risks early and develop recovery actions before they affect project commitments.
Structural Engineering & FEA
• Design and analyze welded and bolted steel and aluminum structures, assemblies, connections, and critical components.
• Perform and document engineering calculations for strength, stiffness, stability, deflection, load paths, reactions, and design margins.
• Develop and critically review finite element analyses using appropriate load cases, constraints, boundary conditions, assumptions, and acceptance criteria.
• Analyze static, dynamic, operating, and movement-related loads as applicable to the equipment.
• Evaluate movable, adjustable, articulating, telescoping, lifting, or positioning structures throughout their required operating range.
• Determine how geometry, reactions, stresses, deflections, load paths, and failure modes change as equipment moves.
• Validate FEA results with hand calculations, first-principles checks, engineering judgment, test data, or other appropriate methods rather than relying solely on software output.
• Document assumptions, calculations, analysis results, conclusions, and required design changes clearly and traceably.
Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Support
• Design maintenance platforms, access stands, work platforms, stairs, railings, structural frames, mechanisms, and related engineered equipment.
• Develop complete 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and bills of material.
• Specify materials, tolerances, fits, fasteners, connections, welding requirements, and manufacturing processes.
• Design for safety, structural integrity, manufacturability, reliability, maintainability, installation, and practical field operation.
• Produce complete and accurate engineering packages suitable for procurement, fabrication, assembly, inspection, and testing.
• Work directly on the manufacturing floor to resolve fabrication and assembly issues quickly and correctly.
• Evaluate engineering changes and ensure modifications are technically reviewed and validated before implementation.
• Capture lessons learned and help improve engineering standards, design tools, reusable designs, and engineering practices.
Other Duties:
This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties or responsibilities performed while in the role.
What Success Looks Like
• Assigned projects have clear technical ownership from requirements through release, manufacturing support, and technical closeout.
• Designs are safe, manufacturable, complete, and validated before release.
• Structural calculations and FEA accurately represent anticipated loading and operating conditions.
• Moving structures are evaluated at the critical positions and load conditions throughout their operating range.
• Engineering risks are identified and resolved before they become manufacturing, testing, schedule, quality, or customer problems.
• Manufacturing receives complete, accurate, and buildable engineering information.
• Technical decisions, assumptions, calculations, analyses, and changes are documented and traceable.
• Less-experienced engineers and designers receive effective technical guidance.
• Lessons learned are incorporated into future designs and engineering practices.
Why Join JE Technology Solutions
At JE Technology Solutions, senior engineers have the opportunity to see their work move from requirements and analysis into physical production and field use. You will work close to the people building the equipment, influence important technical decisions, and have meaningful ownership of complex engineered products.
If you enjoy being equally comfortable at an engineering workstation and on the manufacturing floor, this role is designed for you.
