JOB SUMMARY:

Under administrative supervision, this position oversees custodial operations for the College at assigned location(s). Responsibilities include training, leading, and supervising custodial staff; assigning and monitoring daily work activities; ensuring the cleanliness, appearance, and safety of College facilities; ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards, procedures, and codes; and supporting the safe, efficient, and effective operation of campus facilities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs daily supervision of all custodial full-time and part-time staff employees to ensure quality work is being performed; schedules employees; assigns tasks; ensures all custodial staff are properly trained on all cleaning equipment; and troubleshoots any problems they might have.
• Prepares employee appraisal evaluations.
• Prepares annual equipment budget requests; orders equipment and supplies.
• Verifies employees time sheets for the Department.
• Approves submitted Department leave forms.
• Makes recommendations for improvements or changes in Department operations.
• Backs-up employees when necessary.
• Travels to any campus locations to assist with various site needs.
• Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate degree; five (5) years of related work experience in custodian supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Knowledge of custodial operations including building and floor cleaning techniques and operation of all types of floor maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of supervisory skills and methods.
• Knowledge of general custodial responsibilities and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
• Skill in applying custodial techniques and using equipment.
• Skill in working with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications.
• Skill in organizing, leading others, training, and prioritizing.
• Ability to be flexible, use initiative, be efficient, give directions, work independently as well as with others, be self-motivated, and supervise others.
• Valid Florida driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
