Facilities Maintenance and 5S Technician

The Facilities Maintenance and 5S Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and professional facility. The primary focus of this role is painting, surface preparation, facility appearance, workplace organization, and ongoing 5S activities throughout production and office areas. The position also performs minor facility maintenance and supports improvement projects as assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces, including walls, ceilings, doors, railings, equipment, floors, and other facility areas.
• Complete surface preparation such as cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, priming, masking, and protecting surrounding areas before painting.
• Maintain floor lines, safety markings, color-coded areas, labels, signage, and other visual controls that support safety and 5S standards.
• Perform routine painting touch-ups and corrective work to keep production, warehouse, common, and office areas in good condition.
• Support 5S activities by organizing designated areas, removing unnecessary items, establishing storage locations, labeling materials, and maintaining visual workplace standards.
• Maintain accurate records of painting, inspection, audit, supply, and corrective-action activities.
• Work closely with the EHS Manager, department leaders, and team members to sustain 5S standards and complete facility improvement projects efficiently.
• Coordinate work with production leaders to minimize disruption and follow all PPE, chemical-handling, lockout/tagout, fall-protection, and work-area barricading requirements.
• Complete minor facility repairs and installations, such as patching drywall, replacing damaged signs, mounting boards or dispensers, and correcting basic appearance issues.
• Perform general facility appearance and housekeeping projects, including pressure washing, cleaning designated areas, and supporting waste and scrap organization.
• Maintain painting and 5S supplies, tools, and storage areas in a clean, orderly, and serviceable condition; monitor inventory and report replenishment needs.
• Conduct routine 5S inspections and audits, document findings, and complete or coordinate corrective actions.

Requirements

 Required Skills/Abilities:

• Working knowledge of painting materials, tools, surface preparation methods, and safe application techniques.
• Ability to understand and apply 5S principles, visual management standards, and workplace organization practices.
• Previous experience in commercial or industrial painting, facilities upkeep, 5S, housekeeping, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to identify facility appearance and organization needs, prioritize assignments, and complete work with attention to detail.
• Ability to safely use brushes, rollers, sprayers, pressure washers, ladders, lifts, hand tools, and related equipment; aerial-lift training is preferred.
• Good verbal and written communication skills to report completed work, audit findings, and facility needs.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively in an active manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational skills and a consistent focus on cleanliness, standardization, quality, and follow-through.
• Ability to read labels, follow written instructions, and safely handle paints, solvents, cleaners, and other chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets.

Physical Requirements:

• May require weekend or extended hours depending on production schedules and project deadlines.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and working from ladders or approved elevated work platforms; work may involve paint fumes, dust, loud noise, weather conditions, and moving equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
