Description
Lead and ensure that all financial aspects of the Organisation’s operations, including those related to financial strategy development, payroll, budget preparation, financial and operational performance, financial controls and policies, management of cash flow and debt, revenue/cost initiatives and those relating to business development (including mergers and acquisitions) meet and comply with all organisational and statutory requirements.
Key objectives of the role are to:

ERP Project
Provide effective leadership to caregivers and promote a positive and inclusive culture;
Ensures strategy is translated into plans and programs that will deliver measurable improvements in all areas of responsibility; and
Collaborate effectively with other Group Services and all SJGHC hospitals and services.
Role Responsibilities
Strategy
Support the Board and Group CEO to consider and implement appropriate service delivery and business model strategies to improve service outcomes that are evidence based and informed by best practice while exercising good stewardship of resources.
Oversee successful integration arising from any Merger or Acquisition activity.
Actively engage in development of Group strategies and ensure areas of accountability are aligned.
Contribute positively as a key member of the senior executive leadership team of SJGHC including through the Executive Committee and other forums.
External
Engage and liaise with key external stakeholders in the promotion and advancement of the SJGHC Vision, Mission and Values and activities of the organisation.
Network with external groups to ensure our position within the healthcare sector is well represented with industry in key areas.
Identify and manage emerging challenges and opportunities using comprehensive and robust analysis.
Identify key community, social and environmental issues or impacts and develop strategies to improve performance and outcomes in response.
Ensure an up-to-date awareness of best practice and trends in areas of accountability.
Develop effective and professional working relationships with bankers, advisors, insurers and all key stakeholders.
Operational Finance
Oversee and ensure that Group Finance functions and service performance requirements are aligned to Group and Hospital agreed initiatives in order to achieve operational targets and business needs.
Lead the preparation of the Group’s operating and capital budgets.
Engage with Chief Operating Officer Hospitals, Group Directors, and Hospital CEOs to monitor budget performance and develop strategies to address any budget underperformance.
Responsible for all financial reporting and analysis to Group CEO and SJGHC Board.
Coordinate and prepare the consolidated financial statements of SJGHC.
Lead the development and implementation of Group finance and accounting policies and procedures across SJGHC for all accounting and financial management functions.
Responsible for the management of cash flow/debt management including the centralised treasury function and other financial debt management. This includes the development of funding strategies and the renegotiation of SJGHC debt facilities as required.
Conduct financial due diligence for all acquisition and divestment transactions and negotiations as required.
Develop, review and support business cases for all major capital projects.
Overall responsibility for Group taxation matters.
Engage effectively with COOH, Group Directors and Hospital CEOs to establish areas for process improvement and cost reduction in clinical and non-clinical areas.
Develop and implement strategies to ensure there is continuous improvement in financial processes and practices that will maximise the timely collection of receivables and costs associated with processing of receivables and payables.
Develop, refine and maintain long-term capital and financial planning for SJGHC including consideration of Group-wide activity and health service planning trends. Develop and plan the ideal timing of Hospital capital developments (brownfield and greenfield) for the Group.
Develop indicative capital development budgets and objectives to enable the setting of preliminary Group and Hospital capital medium to long term priorities.
Be involved with recruitment of key advisors for major capital developments including Project directors, builders and quantity surveyors.
Lead the management of major capital development projects as required/directed by the Group Chief Executive Officer through effective Chairing or participation on relevant Redevelopment Steering Committees and Project Steering Committees.
Prepare monthly reports on financial performance against agreed budgets and progress updates on all major capital developments.
Work with COOH, Group Directors and Hospital CEOs to identify and achieve strategic property purchases that support our long-term growth agenda.
Operational Strategy
Engage and liaise with key internal stakeholders in the promotion and advancement of the SJGHC Strategic and related plans ensuring alignment and consistency of all other plans with SJGHC imperatives.
Ensure that integrated, timely and accurate business intelligence is available to support and guide business decision making and strategy development.
Be an influential role model within the organisation for an exemplary service ethos.
Promote and encourage a culture of service excellence across all areas of responsibility.
Promote best practice Occupational Health and Safety and achieve required levels of performance.
