Elder Hanson & Company, Ltd. is a well-established, small CPA firm based in downtown Naperville, Illinois,with a collaborative team working primarily in a remote environment. We are seeking an experienced, full-time remote Tax Manager to join our growing firm.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Tax Manager to prepare and review a broad range of individual, business, estate, and trust income tax returns; provide tax planning and consulting services; manage client relationships; and mentor tax staff.

The ideal candidate has strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience working with a variety of tax clients and return types. Experience in a small or mid-sized public accounting firm is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare complex individual, business, estate, and trust income tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1120, and 1041
• Manage and review individual, business, estate, and trust income tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1120-S, 1065, 1120, and 1041
• Prepare and review individual, business, estate, and trust income tax return projections
• Manage multiple client engagements and maintain proactive client communication
• Research complex federal and state income tax issues and develop practical solutions
• Identify and communicate tax planning opportunities and recommendations to clients
• Review financial statements and accounting records, including income tax basis financial statements
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to staff and senior accountants
• Assist with workflow planning, process improvement, and engagement profitability
• Stay current with changes in federal and state tax laws and communicate relevant developments to clients and staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field required
• Active CPA or EA license required
• 7+ years of progressive public accounting experience, including substantial tax preparation and review experience
• Strong technical knowledge of individual, S corporation, partnership, estate, and trust taxation
• Experience preparing and reviewing Form 1041 estate and trust income tax returns
• Strong tax research, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Experience with Lacerte, QuickBooks Online, and other tax and accounting software is a plus
