Job Summary
SummaryProvides direct patient care through use of the nursing process. Working with the Nurse Director, facilitates the daily operations of the unit.

Essential Functions
Accurately assesses patients’ needs
Utilizes multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status
Provides verbal communication to other health care providers
Documentation reflects on-going assessment of patients’ biopsychosocial status on Assessment Flowsheet
Accurately plans nursing interventions for assigned patients.
Modifies and individualizes Standard of Care and protocols
Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan
Initiates discharge plans at time of admission
Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care needs
Provides and implements nursing care interventions.
Establishes a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients
Demonstrates accurate and timely medication administration
Demonstrates accurate and timely transcription of physician orders
Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives
Participates in leading patient groups
Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions.
Documentation on the Standard of Care, protocols, and Assessment Flowsheet reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions
Accurately communicates patients’ clinical status at patient rounds and change of shift reports
Participates in unit/program Quality Improvement activities
-Assumes a leadership role in managing the daily operations of the unit.
Provides direction and supervision of RNs and MHSs
Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies
Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately
Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers
Problem-solves with the Nurse Director around staffing issues
Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others
Documents teaching in the patient’s record
Informs treatment team of patient and significant others’ learning needs
-Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency.
Utilizes the best available evidence to guide practice decisions
Completes mandatory in-service requirements
Participates in ongoing educational activities
Seeks constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues
Identifies strengths and areas for professional/practice development with supervisor
Supports, participates (as applicable) in research projects
-Participates in the education and professional development of staff.
Collaborates with the Nursing Director in identifying and providing teaching for staff members
Participates in the development of clinical policies, nursing department procedures, and standards of care
-Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
Communicates positively, supportively, and with courtesy to the patients and staff
Presents self in a positive and professional manner
-Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit.
