At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Intern - Credit Analyst

Position Summary
The Credit Analyst Intern will provide assistance to the Commercial Credit Department with financial analysis and special projects while gaining exposure to the commercial lending process and the role credit analysis plays in managing risk for the Bank.
Primary Accountabilities
- Assist with financial statement analysis to support the evaluation of commercial borrowers and credit requests.
- Gain exposure to commercial loan structure and the credit approval process, including how credit decisions are evaluated and documented.
- Learn how effective credit analysis helps identify and reduce credit risk to the Bank.
- Work directly with Commercial Credit leadership to build foundational financial analysis skills and understand the responsibilities of a Credit Analyst.
- Meet and collaborate with Commercial Lenders and Market Presidents to gain exposure to the broader commercial lending process and relationship between lending and credit.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
Position Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- The internship will run for Summer of 2027 beginning mid-May and ending early August.
- Able to work a 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Must reside local to the Rockford, IL area and report to the Rockford office.
- Enrolled in a Finance or Accounting degree program at a college or university with at least 2 years completed.
- Works well in team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Teams.
- Demonstrates ability to learn and use new software and programs.
- Interest in commercial lending, credit analysis, or a related banking career is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and an interest in financial statement analysis.
- Ability to learn financial analysis concepts and apply them accurately to assigned work.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Credit team members, Commercial Lenders, and other business partners.
