Project Engineer – System Monitoring

Salary £45,400 - £56,750 per annum plus strong benefits package and excellent career progression opportunities/support.

Location: Any office base across the Distribution licence area in Scotland — including Telferton (Edinburgh), Glenrothes, Bonnybridge, Cambuslang, Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Galashiels. This role will be predominantly site‑based across the SPD network.

Permanent / Full Time (37 hours per week)

Help us create a better future, quicker!

At SP Energy Networks, we’re shaping the future to meet the growing demand for electricity and low‑carbon technology. Our mission is to deliver safe, secure and sustainable energy solutions for the communities we serve. People are at the heart of this transformation, and we’re looking for talented individuals to join us.

We’re looking for a Project Engineer to join our SCADA & Technical Support team within SP Energy Networks’ Distribution business. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in maintaining, developing and enhancing the critical SCADA systems that allow us to monitor and operate the SPD network safely and reliably.

What you’ll be doing

As a Project Engineer in the SCADA team, you’ll play a central role in delivering major modernisation programmes across the SPD network. This is a critical role in maintaining reliable operational visibility, communication routes and overall system performance across Primary and Grid substations.

You’ll work closely with the Operations Control Centre (OCC), wider engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure the effective delivery, configuration and support of the SCADA systems that keep the network running safely and efficiently.

  • Develop, maintain and support SCADA assets across the SPD network.
  • Deliver change‑process activities and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical input into SCADA specifications, particularly for RTU replacement and development.
  • Support regulatory and business‑driven objectives under RIIO.
  • Respond to SCADA faults and defects, working closely with the OCC to optimise operational performance.
  • Configure, test and commission SCADA systems, including on‑site activities.

What you’ll bring

  • HNC/D in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience within the construction and operations of electricity networks
  • Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Experience working with SCADA systems on electrical power networks.
  • Good understanding of industry‑standard SCADA protocols and protocol‑emulation tools.
  • Transmission or Distribution network operational experience.
  • Ability to analyse complex engineering issues and deliver effective technical solutions.
  • Knowledge of network data, business systems and network‑management tools.
  • Essential: A valid UK driving licence is required, as this role involves frequent travel between sites

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.

At ScottishPower, we believe it’s the little things we do in life that make a big difference. From helping you look after your family’s wellbeing, save for your future and take personal steps for climate action – our benefits are designed to help you do just that -  so that you have everything you need to take care of your world – today and tomorrow.

That’s why our benefits include:

  • 36 days annual leave
  • Holiday purchase – perfect your work/life balance with extra annual leave
  • Share Incentive Plan and Sharesave Scheme
  • Payroll giving and charity matched funding
  • Technology Vouchers – save more and spread the cost of your technology purposes
  • Count us in – pledge to reduce carbon emissions and help fight climate change
  • Electric Vehicle Schemes – to help you transition to green/clean driving
  • Cycle to Work scheme and public transport season ticket loans
  • Options to purchase dental insurance, private medical insurance, health cash plan and annual health assessments
  • Life Assurance (4x salary)
  • Access to ‘nudge’ financial wellbeing support
  • Plus shopping, leisure, restaurant and gym discounts, and unique employee deals on travel insurance and more
