Description
Job Summary
We are seeking for an experienced Field Operations & Safety Advisor to support our growing network of customer operations.
This is not a traditional office-based safety or compliance position. We are looking for someone with a strong operations background who understands the day-to-day challenges of warehouse, distribution, transportation, managed labor, or 3PL/4PL environments.
The ideal candidate has personally led operations, managed employees and performance, worked directly with customers, and understands how to improve safety while maintaining operational effectiveness.
This position will work closely with site managers, supervisors, employees, and customer leadership to identify risks, develop practical solutions, coach managers, and improve safety performance across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to customer locations to support operational safety and risk improvement
- Work directly with site managers, supervisors, employees, and customer leadership
- Identify safety concerns and operational risks within active warehouse and distribution environments
- Develop practical solutions that can be implemented within real operating conditions
- Coach and mentor site managers and supervisors on safety and operational challenges
- Review incidents, injury trends, and recurring concerns to identify opportunities for improvement
- Support incident prevention, root-cause review, and corrective action development
- Help site leadership improve ownership and follow-through on safety concerns
- Work with customer representatives when facility, equipment, workflow, or production conditions affect employee safety
- Support new operations, struggling locations, transitions, and other field needs
- Influence operational and customer leadership without relying on direct authority
- Escalate unresolved or significant safety concerns when appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of leadership experience in warehouse, distribution, transportation, manufacturing, managed labor, or 3PL/4PL operations
- Previous direct responsibility for employees and operational results such as productivity, safety, service, staffing, or customer performance
- Experience working in customer-owned or customer-controlled operations
- Experience managing difficult operational or safety discussions with customers or leaders outside of your direct reporting structure
- Strong communication, coaching, and practical problem-solving skills
- Ability to build credibility and influence others without formal authority
- Willing and able to spend the majority of the position working in active customer operations
Travel Requirement
This position requires extensive travel to more than 40 customer locations across multiple states, with additional locations expected as Action Logistics continues to grow.
Travel may include:
- Overnight stays
- Consecutive days onsite
- Short-notice travel
- Air and ground travel
- Assignments at both new and established customer locations
Candidates must be willing and able to meet the travel requirements of the position.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
This role is designed for an experienced operations leader who enjoys solving problems, mentoring managers, influencing customer relationships, and improving operational performance in the field.
Unlike a traditional General Manager, Operations Manager, or Site Leader position, this role does not carry full P&L responsibility, large direct-report structures, or responsibility for running an entire business unit.
Instead, the position provides the opportunity to work across multiple operations, support site leadership, collaborate with customers, and apply real-world operational experience to improve safety performance and reduce risk throughout a growing network of locations.
The ideal candidate is someone who still enjoys being in the operation, working with people, solving challenges, developing managers, and making a meaningful impact, but is looking for a different type of professional responsibility than a traditional site or regional leadership role.
What We Are Looking For
We are especially interested in candidates with previous experience as a:
- General Manager
- Operations Manager
- Site Manager
- Warehouse Manager
- Distribution Center Manager
- Transportation Manager
- Regional or Multi-Site Operations Manager
- Field Operations Manager
- 3PL/4PL Operations Manager
- Safety Manager with significant prior operations leadership experience
A strong candidate will have the credibility to enter an operation, quickly understand the challenges, work effectively with site and customer leadership, and help develop realistic solutions that improve safety without losing sight of operational demands.
We are looking for someone who can distinguish between legitimate operational limitations and resistance to change, coach managers rather than replace them, and help build ownership at the local level.
This position is particularly well suited for an experienced operations leader who still enjoys being in the field, solving problems, mentoring managers, and working with customers, but no longer wants the full P&L, staffing, direct-report, and organizational responsibility associated with running an entire site or business unit.
This is an opportunity to leverage years of operational experience across multiple locations while helping managers, employees, and customers build safer and more effective operations.
