Help transform hearing health — contribute to research that reduces the impact of hearing loss across communities

Are you ready to apply your research skills to work that makes a genuine difference to people's lives? Macquarie University Hearing is seeking a Research Assistant to provide research support across a range of studies within our Public Health and Policy Pillar.

Located within the Australian Hearing Hub, Macquarie University Hearing is a global centre for hearing and hearing-related research, education, and engagement. Guided by the Macquarie University Hearing Strategy 2030, we are working with partners across the university and beyond to advance the hearing agenda and reduce the global burden of hearing loss.

In this role, you will join a friendly, purpose-focused team working to reduce the social, human, and economic impact of adult-onset hearing loss. It's an outstanding opportunity to grow your research career while contributing to population health, epidemiological, and intervention studies that create real community benefit.

About the Role

Reporting to the Cochlear Chair in Hearing and Health, you will provide research and administrative assistance across multiple projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Cochlear Chair in Hearing and Health and project coordinators with activities including preparing ethics and governance applications and helping monitor project progress towards key milestones and outcomes.

  • Contacting participants for recruitment, enrolment, and follow-up via phone, text message, and email.

  • Conducting and transcribing interviews with research participants.

  • Performing data collection and entry into REDCap, maintaining accurate collection, entry, and secure record-keeping.

  • Assisting with the delivery of training programs as part of research projects.

  • Providing general research assistance and administrative help as required.

About Us

Macquarie University Hearing, located within the Australian Hearing Hub, is a global hub of hearing and hearing-related research, education, and engagement. The Public Health and Policy Pillar has the primary goal of reducing the social, human, and economic impact of adult-onset hearing loss, with research spanning population health and epidemiological studies as well as intervention studies.

About You

You are an organised and detail-focused research professional who enjoys working across varied projects and engaging with people. You bring sound knowledge of research methodology and a genuine interest in improving hearing health outcomes. You work well on your own initiative and enjoy being part of a wider team.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline.

  • Knowledge of human ethics processes.

  • Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology, including participant recruitment, epidemiological surveys, and/or clinical trials.

  • Computer skills including MS Office (particularly Word and Excel), internet, and database management such as REDCap.

  • Well-developed organisational and communication skills, with careful attention to detail and accurate data management.

  • Capacity to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

  • Adaptability to work across multiple research projects as required.

Desirable Criteria

  • A Masters in a relevant health-related field.

  • Experience in qualitative analysis using NVivo.

  • Current phlebotomy certification and clinical competency in human subject venepuncture and safe biological sample processing.

***The successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Check and an academic qualification check.
