Description of Work

At O’Berry Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, the Staff Development Specialist I primarily facilitates and administers educational programs. This critical role assesses departmental learning needs, plans targeted curriculum, and conducts instructor-led training to ensure compliance with healthcare standards. This position operates under the umbrella of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to support both direct care and operational staff.

Responsibilities Include:
• Needs Assessment: Identify organizational knowledge gaps and determining
the required training objectives.
• Curriculum Development: Assist in the design of training materials, manuals,
and instructional procedures.
• Instruction: Deliver in person, on-the-job, and specialized training.
• Administration: Manage administrative duties within the Learning
Management System (LMS), including documenting training, maintaining
records, and evaluating progress to ensure full state compliance.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $47,703 - $83,479

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Considerable knowledge of training theory, principles, and techniques to include ability to adapt and communicate information to a wide range of audiences and situations.

  • Considerable knowledge of capabilities and uses of audiovisual aids and other training tools and resources.

  • Ability to develop course outlines and lesson plans.

  • Demonstrated skill in assessing, planning, executing, evaluating, and adapting training to meet organizational needs.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in a progressive training or teaching role or one year of experience in a human service, counseling, or training program in the subject matter specified; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certification: Current certification to teach CPR through the American Heart Association, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
