Description
Position Summary...
What you'll do...
The Senior Product Marketing Manager, Competitive Intelligence is a senior individual contributor role responsible for building the analytical and competitive intelligence backbone for product and business decision-making. This role leads deep market, product, and competitor analysis to uncover strategic gaps, quantify opportunities, and shape product inbound, roadmap direction, and go-to-market decisions.
This role is centered on unpacking our product features, functionality, positioning, and future vision against a defined competitor set, then translating that analysis into clear, decision-ready recommendations for Product, PMM, and business leaders. It brings structured, market signal into roadmap decisions and helps turn product capability into measurable commercial impact.
What you will own
- Lead the competitive intelligence discipline for priority product and solution areas.
- Build and maintain frameworks for competitive benchmarking, feature teardown, opportunity sizing, and strategic comparison.
- Analyze our product portfolio against competitors across capability depth, differentiation, packaging, pricing, adoption, and future product direction.
- Quantify trade-offs, risks, and growth opportunities to support roadmap and investment decisions.
- Deliver rigorous, structured insights that influence product inbound, roadmap prioritization, and commercial strategy.
- Enable PMMs and cross-functional partners to use competitive intelligence methods at scale.
- Establish standards for CI analysis quality, confidence levels, and post-decision validation.
Core responsibilities
- Conduct product and competitor teardowns that compare current capabilities, gaps, and strategic positioning.
- Build market sizing, forecasting, and scenario models to quantify opportunity and inform prioritization.
- Perform competitive benchmarking using weighted scoring, maturity models, and capability frameworks.
- Run statistical and analytical work including regression, cohort analysis, clustering, and driver analysis to understand what drives competitive wins and losses.
- Design and analyze experiments and causal tests to validate hypotheses and measure impact.
- Develop customer preference models such as conjoint or MaxDiff when decisions require trade-off analysis.
- Translate complex findings into executive-ready recommendations, readouts, and decision memos.
- Partner closely with Product, PMM, Analytics, and leadership to shape roadmap inputs and validate strategic bets.
- Create reusable CI standards, templates, and frameworks that raise the bar across the PMM organization.
What success looks like
- Competitive intelligence is consistently used to shape product inbound and roadmap decisions early, not after the fact.
- Product and business leaders trust the role’s analysis as a source of decision-grade insight.
- The PMM organization has repeatable CI frameworks that can be applied across solution areas.
- Key product decisions are supported by clear evidence on competitive position, opportunity size, and expected impact.
- Post-launch outcomes regularly validate CI recommendations and improve future decision quality.
- CI work is recognized as a distinct discipline with measurable outcomes, calibrated within-function rather than against unrelated PMM roles.
Minimum qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in competitive intelligence, product marketing, market research, strategy, analytics, or a related field.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including comfort with modeling and structured analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to compare complex products, markets, and competitors and convert findings into strategy.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive storytelling.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in ad tech, retail media, digital platforms, SaaS, or other fast-moving product environments.
- Experience with feature teardowns, competitive benchmarking, market sizing, and experimentation.
- Comfort with statistical methods and causal analysis.
- Experience building frameworks and playbooks that scale across teams.
- Advanced degree or equivalent training in business, economics, analytics, statistics, or a related field.
Key attributes
- Highly rigorous and evidence-driven.
- Clear thinker who can simplify complexity.
- Comfortable challenging assumptions and pressure-testing product strategy.
- Strong collaborator with Product, PMM, and business partners.
- Bias toward actionable insight, not descriptive reporting
