At Mundipharma, we are proud of the work we do to bring innovative treatments to patients. We challenge ourselves constantly to deliver more for patients, healthcare professionals, our partners, and our employees.
The Team / Role
Working for the Senior Finance Director, Global Support Functions (GSF), the Senior Finance Business Partner – Scientific Affairs and R&D is responsible for supporting the Chief Development & Medical Officer and Scientific Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) and their teams by demonstrating expert business partnership and strong financial acumen. The role spans four Functions: Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Drug Safety (Pharmacovigilance) and Research & Development (R&D). Effective business partnering requires building a deep knowledge of the Functions (both cost-wise and operationally) in order to deliver value-add support on all strategic & financial topics, as well as in-depth knowledge of the activities, studies & programmes conducted by the Functions.
As a member of the Scientific Affairs Leadership Team (SALT), the role requires supporting and informing global strategic decision-making through value-add insight. Through a deep understanding of the in-flight and upcoming demands on the Functions, the Senior Finance Business Partner must help ensure that Budget commitments are met whilst simultaneously allowing the Functions to ‘breathe’ and to deliver the work that is required. The role requires close collaboration with many groups of stakeholders, including the Commercial & Market Access teams in the context of investment decisions to ensure full alignment.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead Budgeting & Forecasting processes for the Global Scientific Affairs and R&D Functions (Opex) – comprising an annual 5-year Plan and a monthly Rolling Forecast. This will involve preparing the Global budget as well as coordinating with Local Finance teams to build and lead the Total Function view.
- Work with members of SALT to develop appropriate budgets (& budget tracking) and to drive effective resource prioritisation. Fully understand budget requirements in the context of the strategic aims of the global Scientific Affairs organisation in support of Mundipharma’s patient-centric corporate strategy.
- Prepare and support delivery of the Global Scientific Affairs Budget presentations for the CFO, CEO & Chairman.
- Overall responsibility for tracking and controlling global Actuals vs Budgets for the Scientific Affairs Functions. Provide clear monthly performance updates, insights on variances and recommended interventions to ensure delivery on target. Identify and highlight any risks and/or opportunities to the Scientific Affairs and R&D Budget.
- As needed, support the Functions in responding to new in-year savings requirements.
- Actively support the Financial Controller of MRL (Mundipharma Research Limited). This will include liaising with the FSSC (Financial Shared Service Centre) for operational month-end activities (e.g. accruals) and assisting with year-end audit work.
- Maintain and enhance the value-driven charging (allocation) model of Mundipharma Research Limited (MRL entity) costs to other Mundipharma entities. Build alignment to help global and regional finance leaders understand the charging model and the value delivered.
- Work closely with the HR Business Partner for Scientific Affairs and R&D to track monthly FTEs.
- Collaborate on the financial implications of any Restructuring or FTE changes which may be required.
What you’ll bring
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE; relevant university degree and/or MBA preferred.
- Proven finance background in the Pharmaceutical / Life Science / Medical Devices sector, with direct experience supporting Scientific Affairs and/or R&D functions.
- Multi phased clinical development experience with a good understanding of products from trial to post-launch etc would be ideal
- Demonstrated track record acting as an embedded finance business partner across a complex, fast-paced global matrix environment.
- Robust technical accounting acumen paired with strong hands-on experience in financial control and management.
- Exceptional written and presentation skills, with proven ability to prepare and deliver clear, high-impact budget presentations to ExCo-level stakeholders.
- Advanced critical-thinking and analytical skills, capable of challenging assumptions, resolving complex challenges, and navigating ambiguity with ease.
- Proactive self-starter with the ability to operate autonomously, manage competing priorities, and maintain end-to-end accountability with a strong sense of urgency.
- Collaborative relationship-builder with a growth mindset, adept at partnering across all organizational levels and flexibly pivoting to deliver ad hoc business projects.
What we offer in return
