We are seeking a talented individual to join our Investment Performance and Regulatory Reporting team at Mercer. This role will be based in Melbourne OR Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office. This opportunity is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
The Analyst – Investment Performance and Regulatory Reporting is responsible for collating and maintaining key performance-based datasets, supporting the team to produce accurate and timely investment reports. This role sits at the intersection of investment performance and regulatory compliance, providing critical data insights to internal stakeholders and ensuring the organisation meets regulatory obligations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an analytically driven professional to deepen their expertise working across a diversified portfolio within a multi-manager, multi-asset superannuation trust structure. The successful candidate will work closely with senior performance analysts and data automation specialist, and develop a genuine understanding of how institutional capital is deployed, monitored and reported at scale. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a must, familiarity with investment performance systems is a plus.
We will count on you to:
- Maintain and reconcile the investment performance measurement system, ensuring data integrity across custodian feeds, unit pricing, and internal records.
- Perform data quality checks and exception management to identify and resolve discrepancies in source data before use in analytics.
- Collate and maintain key datasets outside of core systems, documenting data definitions, methodologies, and procedures in accordance with data governance guidelines.
- Support the development and maintenance of benchmark indices and composite calculations where applicable.
- Assist senior performance analysts in attribution analysis to decompose performance against benchmarks.
- Coordinate with custodian, data vendor, fund accounting, and investment management teams to gather source data required for regulatory submissions.
- Provide analytical support and clear explanations of investment outcomes and regulatory data to non-technical stakeholders.
- Respond to ad hoc data requests, including collating, manipulating and presenting data from multiple sources to support decision-making or analysis.
- Identify opportunities to enhance processes through automation, improved data sourcing, or risk mitigation.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation, reconciliations, and explanations as required.
- Contribute to project work related to performance system upgrades, data warehouse development, or regulatory change programs.
What you need to have:
- High attention to detail with a track record of producing accurate, audit-ready outputs under deadline pressure.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Query, VBA, and complex formulae; experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
- Strong understanding of investment concepts including asset classes, benchmarks, return attribution, and risk metrics.
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in investment performance reporting, fund operations, or financial data analysis within a superannuation fund, asset manager, custodian, or financial services firm.
