Description
Greater Boston Area | Direct Hire | Full-Time
Skilled Trades Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager / Operations Manager for a well-established welding, fabrication, and field-service contractor in the Greater Boston area.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who understands construction from the shop and field level through project management, financial oversight, and project closeout. We are looking for a seasoned construction professional — not an office-only Project Manager.
The ideal candidate will have experience within welding, structural steel, fabrication, industrial construction, and/or utility infrastructure, with the ability to oversee both field and shop operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee projects from planning and fabrication through field installation and closeout
- Manage project schedules, budgets, labor, materials, and overall financial performance
- Coordinate shop fabrication and field operations
- Lead welders, fabricators, foremen, and field crews
- Work closely with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Monitor project progress and proactively address scheduling, production, and field challenges
- Ensure projects meet quality, safety, and customer expectations
- Support estimating, change orders, billing, and project documentation
- Help drive overall operational efficiency and accountability
Ideal Background:
- Strong experience in welding, fabrication, structural steel, or miscellaneous metals
- Utility infrastructure experience is highly preferred
- Experience with electric and/or gas utility projects, underground utilities, or utility vaults is a major plus
- Industrial construction and field installation/service experience
- Experience overseeing shop fabrication and production
- Proven ability to manage field crews, foremen, welders, and fabricators
- Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling, and closeout
Candidates who began their careers in the field, shop, or as a Foreman/Superintendent and progressed into Project Management or Operations leadership are especially encouraged to apply.
Compensation:
Competitive salary based on experience and depth of industry knowledge.
This is a direct-hire opportunity with an established contractor looking for an experienced leader who can make an immediate impact.
