JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and vision and values of the organization, works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide outreach crisis intervention to adolescents and children, and consultation services to support community partners. Performs assessments on children and youth experiencing urgent and emergent mental health issues including concurrent disorders, provides emergency mobile crisis response, facilitates access to a psychiatrist or immediate hospital facility admission if necessary, formulates and implements treatment plans, provides short-term individual and/or family therapy, and provides post-hospitalization bridging support. Attends case meetings, provides consultative and education services. Participates in team meetings, continuing education and engages in ongoing team planning and quality improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Master’s degree in a related regulated Health Science Discipline. Three (3) years’ related experience working with children and youth in a mental health setting. Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of child and youth developmental theory and crisis intervention theory. Knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counselling skills. Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects). Knowledge of neuropsychiatric conditions and care. Knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care. Knowledge of psychoeducation principles and methods. Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to children and youth.Ability to apply a variety of theoretical models to practice in assessment and intervention and critically evaluate against identified outcomes.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues, physicians, school counsellors, clients and their families, students, and other service providers in health and social services, both one-on-one and in groups.Ability to apply knowledge of theory and practice to a case management process.Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.Ability to establish workload priorities.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.Ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Ability to problem solve.Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.Ability to operate related equipment.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
