Job Description Summary
About the Role
We are excited to launch new roles in our Transport division to support our two new long-term Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) maintenance contracts awarded by the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.
The Victoria West ITS Maintenance Contract will see our teams maintain more than 4,500 ITS assets across 27 Local Government Areas, covering around a third of metropolitan Melbourne and extending west to the South Australian border. We also have the Motorway Communications Network Contract, which connects more than 2,000 roadside devices including lane use management signs, variable speed limit signs, freeway ramp signals, CCTV and sensor technologies, while also connecting private road operators with Victoria’s transport control system.
About the role
You will provide operational health and safety support across these contracts, partnering with leaders, employees and subcontractors to manage risk, promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance with legislative and contract requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Field safety and coaching - providing visible field-based HSE leadership by coaching teams and subcontractors, facilitating risk awareness activities, and supporting the effective implementation of critical controls for high-risk activities and hazards.
Assurance and compliance - conducting audits, inspections and control assurance activities to monitor compliance, identifying risks, driving corrective actions, and providing reporting on control effectiveness and emerging trends.
Incident and injury management - supporting incident, injury and return-to-work management by facilitating investigations, implementing corrective actions, and partnering with leaders and HR to achieve positive workforce outcomes.
Operational and psychosocial safety - supporting the effective management of incidents, injuries and psychosocial risks by providing guidance on fatigue, emergency response and wellbeing, while promoting appropriate support services and recovery outcomes.
Capability and stakeholders - delivering HSE training, competency assurance and mobilisation support, while providing expert advice to leaders and stakeholders on HSE requirements and performance.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have some previous experience in health and safety, preferably within infrastructure, construction, electrical, transport, utilities or maintenance services industries.
You may also have:
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
Construction induction card and current Victorian drivers licence.
ICAM or equivalent investigator qualification would be highly desirable.
Working knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation and ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and integrated management systems.
Strong coaching, influencing, investigation, reporting and stakeholder skills.
