The Office of Vice President for Research and Development (VPRDO) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST / University) invites applications for the position of Project Manager. We are seeking a motivated individual to support continuous improvement in the University’s research ethics and animal welfare program, contributing to HKUST’s research excellence.
The Project Manager will lead a university-wide initiative (Initiative) to strengthen animal welfare and research compliance programs in line with internationally recognized standards. Working closely with senior leadership, researchers, animal facility professionals and related governing committees and administrative offices, the Project Manager will oversee project planning, implementation, stakeholder engagement, documentation, and continuous improvement activities across the University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables of the Initiative;
- Coordinate and collaborate among research laboratories, animal facilities, governing committees, various university departments and administrative offices, and senior management on matters related to the Initiative;
- Develop / review policies, processes, guidelines, standard operating procedures, reporting templates, etc. related to animal welfare and research compliance;
- Manage documentation, records, and information required for institutional reviews and assessments;
- Organize meetings, working groups, training sessions, stakeholder engagement and communications, and compliance monitoring activities;
- Prepare reports, briefing materials, presentations and meeting minutes for management and committees, and relevant authorities and external bodies;
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement follow up actions;
- Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives and support external reviews or site visits; and
- Undertake other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate should possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or a related discipline;
- Candidates with a research postgraduate degree and experience in using laboratory animals in research will have an advantage;
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; experience in research administration and project management is preferred;
- Professional project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is desirable;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; and
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment, and to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with diverse stakeholder groups.
(Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of renewal)
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview and a written test.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
