Description
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the plant EHS strategy aligned with business objectives and corporate EHS policies.
- Establish annual EHS goals, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Integrate EHS requirements into new projects, process changes, and plant expansion.
- Monitor EHS performance and present periodic reports to Plant Management and Corporate EHS.
- Drive a proactive safety culture and promote operational excellence.
- Establish, implement, and monitor comprehensive occupational health and safety programs across the manufacturing facility.
- Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Process Risk Assessments, and Environmental Aspect & Impact Assessments.
- Develop and review Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Work Instructions for all manufacturing processes.
- Ensure effective implementation of: Permit to Work (PTW) System , Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) , Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, Fire Safety, Confined Space Entry, Working at Height, Forklift & Material Handling Equipment Safety, Crane & Lifting Operations
- Monitor contractor safety, PPE compliance, shop-floor inspections, safety audits, and Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) initiatives.
- Ensure safe operations across machining, winding, painting, powder coating, assembly, testing, utilities, warehouses, and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable EHS laws, Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code ( Factories Act & State Factory Rules ), Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) / State Pollution Control Board requirements , and other statutory regulations.
- Manage statutory approvals, licenses, permits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
- Oversee hazardous waste, ETP/STP operations, emissions, noise, water, waste, and chemical management.
- Drive environmental sustainability initiatives including energy conservation, water conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure timely closure of compliance actions.
- Develop and execute the annual EHS training calendar for employees and contractors.
- Conduct induction, refresher training, toolbox talks, and awareness programs on safety and environmental topics.
- Promote employee engagement through Safety Week, Environment Day, near-miss reporting, safety campaigns, and recognition programs.
- Build a strong safety culture through leadership involvement and employee participation.
- Lead investigations into all incidents, including : Near Misses, First Aid Cases, Medical Treatment Cases , Lost Time Injuries (LTI) , Property Damage, Fire Incidents, Environmental Incidents , Unsafe Acts & Unsafe Conditions
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis using structured methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, and Corrective & Preventive Action (CAPA).
- Track closure of corrective actions and verify effectiveness.
- Maintain incident records, investigation reports, and statutory reporting documentation.
- Analyze incident trends and develop preventive action plans.
- Prepare and present monthly EHS performance dashboards, safety statistics, compliance reports, and KPI reports to Plant Management and Corporate EHS.
- Ensure timely statutory reporting of reportable accidents and environmental incidents to the relevant authorities
- Develop and maintain the On-site Emergency Response Plan.
- Conduct mock drills, fire drills, evacuation exercises, and emergency response training.
- Ensure readiness of firefighting systems, emergency equipment, and response teams.
- Coordinate with external agencies such as Fire Department, Hospitals, and Pollution Control Authorities during emergencies.
- Maintain EHS policies, SOPs, risk assessments, statutory records, training records, and audit documentation.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation related to: Legal Compliance Register, Risk Assessments, Training Records, Safety Inspection Reports, Audit Reports, Incident Investigation Reports, Environmental Monitoring Reports, Waste Disposal Records, PPE Records, Equipment Inspection Records, MSDS/SDS Documentation
- Coordinate internal audits, surveillance audits, and certification activities.
- Support customer, corporate, and statutory EHS audits and ensure timely closure of observations.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to collect, validate, and report ESG data to the Corporate EHS team.
- Capture and report key sustainability metrics including energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water consumption, waste generation, recycling rates, environmental compliance,
- Support corporate sustainability initiatives, ESG reporting, and environmental improvement projects.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of ESG data in line with corporate requirements.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong knowledge of EHS laws, statutory regulations, and industrial safety standards applicable to manufacturing industries.
- Proficiency in risk assessment techniques, incident investigation, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Sound knowledge of Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), fire safety, emergency response, hazardous chemical management, and contractor safety.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Effective communication, presentation, and training facilitation skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple EHS initiatives simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and EHS reporting systems.
- Strong documentation, audit management, and regulatory compliance skills.
- Knowledge of ESG reporting, sustainability practices, and environmental performance management is desirable.
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Production, Industrial, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering; and
- Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety from a State Technical Education Board, University, or other Government-recognized institution.
- Note: Both the Engineering Degree and the Industrial Safety qualification are mandatory for this position.
- 10–12 years of experience in manufacturing EHS.
