Description
Waste Collection & Street Maintenance
- Removes litter, debris, yard clippings, and other waste from roadways, curbs, shoulders, medians, sidewalks, and City rights-of-way.
- Collects, loads, unloads, and disposes of yard waste and refuse.
- Operates specialized vehicles and light, medium, and heavy equipment for sanitation and City street maintenance.
- Follows assigned collection routes and schedules.
- Removes ice and snow from public roadways, sidewalks, and City parking lots.
- Assists with setup and breakdown of special events.
Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance
- Operates sanitation trucks, compactors, and other equipment.
- Performs routine inspections, minor service, and basic maintenance on trucks and equipment.
- Reports mechanical problems, damaged equipment, hazardous materials, and unsafe conditions.
- Keeps vehicles clean and stocked with necessary supplies and materials.
- Maintains records of basic operations, maintenance, and work performed.
Emergency Response & Safety
- Responds to emergency calls from the public and other agencies, taking appropriate action such as placing barricades and removing fallen trees and limbs.
- Follows safety procedures, traffic laws, and environmental regulations.
- Works outdoors in varying weather conditions and performs physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy materials.
- Participates in a required on-call rotation every five weeks.
Customer Service & Team Support
- Provides courteous customer service and responds to public questions and inquiries.
- May assist with training new employees on work practices, policies, procedures, and standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to obtain a class B CDL with the appropriate endorsements within 1 year of employment.

Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a background investigation.
- Participates in a required on-call rotation every five weeks.
Physical Requirements:
- Employee may be required to operate light, medium, and heavy equipment vehicles, and other equipment.
- Constant exposure to all weather conditions (sometimes severe).
- Walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting.
- Exposure to airborne dust and loud noises.
- Frequent climbing of ladders up to 12’ above ground.
- Driving and working on slippery surfaces.
- Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined and cramped spaces.
- Ability to use repetitive hand motion, lift above shoulders climb in and out of ditches, turn valves, lift and carry pipes and dig ditches.
- Continuous standing, frequent walking, bending and stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling, and twisting of wrist in use of tools.
- Occasional sitting, squatting, crawling, climbing and balancing
- Vision must be sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents, and to operate vehicles and equipment.
- Employee must hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to traffic, refuse, debris, hazardous materials, and other environmental conditions. The position requires frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, loading, and operating vehicles and heavy equipment.
