Seattle Center is seeking Human Resources Generalist to join our small but mighty team of HR visionaries. This Generalist position will have a primary focus in recruitment and hiring, with the ability to provide human resources consultation and support to management and employees. This position will use knowledge of various human resources functions including, but not limited to, employee and labor relations, leaves, ADA and Worker’s Comp, safety, training, classification and compensation, performance management and employee event management to provide tactical HR support to the organization. 

This position champions race and social justice which requires fostering a relational culture and an openness to learn and apply new ideas and skills through an equity lens. This position applies concepts of race and social justice to all work and engages in departmental efforts to eliminate racial disparities and achieve racial equity in City government and broader community. 

*This position is currently scheduled to sunset December 31, 2028, pending alternative funding. 

Regular hours are 20 hours a week but can anticipate up to 40 hours a week during peak recruitment and hiring or for special projects. Some remote work is possible, up to 2 days a week. In office days will need to be flexible to accommodate on-site interview coordination or other business needs on Campus or the Waterfront.

Here's more of what you’ll be doing: 

  • Deliver a full cycle talent acquisition (TA) and retention experience 
  • Promote excellent candidate experience including candidate notification, offer letters, background checks and/or physicals, onboarding, and assist with start date coordination 
  • Utilize social media recruiting efforts through online platforms such as LinkedIn, to further Seattle Center’s employment brand 
  • Interpret and apply a broad range of employment laws, personnel rules, and bargaining agreements 
  • Maintain the integrity of all HR issues, data and employee information in a confidential manner 
  • Initiate and drive continuous process improvement, focusing on aligning practices and ensuring consistency, efficiency and equity
  • Actively plan, participate and promote Seattle Center at job fairs, career workshops, community outreach and employee events and proactively obtain and maintain relationships 
  • Perform multiple record entries into the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and maintain good record keeping
  • Assist in resolving benefit issues with employees, such as new hire entries, changes in family status and payroll deduction
  • Assist with tracking and intake of Employee or Labor Relations cases, policy and labor contract review and interpretation and other HR related consultations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of responsible professional public personnel administration experience AND
  • A baccalaureate degree in social sciences, human resource management, business administration or related field or an additional two years of equivalent experience and/or training and/or education to perform the work of the class.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:  

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • A hybrid work environment that includes work onsite at least 2 days a week as well as the option of flexible remote work.
  • Repetitive use of hands and wrists and frequent fingering, handling, grasping, and reaching in using computers, telephones, fax machines and other office equipment and supplies 
  • Sitting often for extended periods while performing desktop activities

This position is pending budget authority and classification review.

The full pay range for this step-progression position is $43.86 - $51.24 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $43.86 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.

Individuals selected to fill this position may be eligible to receive Language Premium Pay (SMC 4.20.360), which provides a $200.00 monthly stipend to qualified bilingual employees who are properly evaluated and assigned to provide direct communication in-language, interpretation, or translation services to the public on behalf of the City of Seattle.
