The City of Pearland, TX, is seeking to hire a full-time Municipal Court Supervisor!

Our Court Supervisor earns a competitive salary of $59,076.25 to $63,946.03, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COURT SUPERVISOR

General Description

The purpose of this job within the organization is to plan, organize, and direct the overall goals and the strategic and daily tactical objectives of Court Services. This position is responsible for ensuring the administrative functions of the municipal court.

This job works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

 

Essential Functions

Assists with development, implementation, and adherence to court policies, procedures, and changes in local and state laws and ordinances; special projects; running reports; administrative assistance; facilitating projects; monitoring workflow; identifying and resolving problems; and preparing and verifying daily deposits.

  • Manages daily work activities which include, but are not limited to, organizing, prioritizing, and assigning work; monitoring status of work in progress; inspecting completed work; consulting with Director/Assistant Director to assist with solving complex problems and providing technical expertise.
  • Manages staff by participating in hiring process, establishing work schedule(s), performance coaching, providing training, evaluating performance, and making recommendations for promotion, discipline and/or termination.
  • Provide oversight of all court services, jury services and juvenile activities, including filling in for the court docket specialist and juvenile case manager in their absence.
  • Reviews documents presented to the court for authenticity, accuracy and appropriate judicial action.
  • Calculates, collects, and processes fines, fees and court costs, based on judicial orders, for misdemeanor violations related to state law and city ordinances.
  • Assists citizens with information regarding the entire municipal court process, with general information about the City and its services, and directs inquiries to the appropriate department.
  • Prepares cases for court, processes judgments and dispositions, and enters case information into the court software system.
  • Assists Judge and court personnel in the courtroom as needed, including operating recording software for court of record requirements.
  • Prepares and maintains court files, both manual and computerized, including data entry and digital imaging.
  • Assists with research and interpretation of judicial orders.
  • Reviews court files for compliance, processes cases in accordance with legal requirements, and prepares documentation for judges and prosecutors, including warrant of arrest.
  • Runs routine reports from the court software system.
  • Generates correspondence and documentation to defendants and attorneys related to court case files such as court summonses, letters, promises to appear, document receipts, etc.
  • Processes administrative dismissals for customers based on standing orders issued by the Presiding Judge.
  • Reviews work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
  • Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
  • Knowledgeable about the entire municipal court process.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and 5 years of municipal administration experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Level I of the Municipal Court Clerk Certification through the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC), at time of promotion/hire. Once certification is obtained, must maintain required certifications/licenses throughout time in position.
