Job Description Summary

The Project Director – Australia, Onshore Wind, is a recognized expert in Onshore Wind Project Management and is responsible for project delivery, profit and loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through the management of project-related activities and resources.

This role is part of the Onshore Wind APAC leadership team and will contribute to regional leadership, governance and delivery priorities across the APAC portfolio. The Project Director will directly lead and manage a team of Project Managers responsible for the delivery of Australian onshore wind projects, providing day-to-day leadership, performance management, coaching, prioritisation and governance oversight. You will demonstrate the leadership and expertise necessary to deliver Australian onshore wind projects safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with business, customer and contractual commitments.

The role is responsible for delivering wind turbines to customer project sites, installation, commissioning, achieving wind farm performance tests, and successfully handing over completed assets to the customer. Owns and influences budgets and operating plans, works with cross-functional teams, and has autonomy within the operational area. High levels of evaluative judgement, operational acumen, safety leadership and customer focus are required to achieve outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Responsible for project delivery, profit and loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through the management of project-related activities and resources for Australian onshore wind projects.
• Own and deliver financial business objectives in line with the annual operating plan, regional commitments and global targets.
• Lead safe execution of customer projects, including turbine delivery to site, installation, commissioning, performance testing, handover and project close-out.
• Drive execution and operational excellence on project delivery commitments to customers and the business, with a strong focus on safety, compliance and integrity.
• Develop and manage customer relationships by partnering with senior customer stakeholders and working-level project teams.
• Develop and execute the Australian Projects strategy in alignment with the Onshore Wind strategy and regional priorities.
• Provide overall leadership and governance for Australian Projects, ensuring project management, site leadership, planning, project controls, commercial, logistics, installation, commissioning and functional support teams are aligned to project priorities, delivery commitments, safety expectations and customer outcomes.
• Set priorities, allocate project management resources, provide regular performance feedback, support career development and ensure the Project Management team has the capability, clarity and accountability required to deliver the Australian project portfolio.
• Own and influence project budgets, cost forecasts, cash, margin, operating plans, risk mitigation plans and recovery actions.
• Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve project execution, processes, quality, efficiency and customer outcomes.
• Use technical, commercial and operational experience to analyse complex project information, question conflicting data, and support sound decision making.
• Partner with regional and international cross-functional leaders to develop competitive execution solutions and offerings that support improved market position, share and margins.
• Influence peers, internal functions, external partners, vendors, contractors and customers to align around project priorities and resolve complex issues.
• Contribute to strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within the area of responsibility.
• Act as a best practice and quality resource for project execution across Australia, sharing lessons learned and supporting continuous improvement.
• Develop talent, build project execution capability, and create a succession pipeline to support business continuity, people retention and delivery of the project backlog.

Required Qualifications

• Significant experience in Project Management. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
• Significant experience leading complex infrastructure, construction, energy or renewable energy projects in Australia.
• Demonstrated experience managing project delivery, financial performance, customer satisfaction, project resources and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong working knowledge of project controls, contract management, risk management, cost forecasting, scheduling and project governance.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a matrix organisation, including direct and indirect leadership of professional teams.
• Experience in onshore wind project execution, including turbine delivery, installation, commissioning, performance testing and customer handover.
• Knowledge of Australian construction, safety, environmental, industrial relations and renewable energy market requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead programs and projects with moderate to high complexity, resource requirements and risk.
