We’re looking for a thoughtful, detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our Finance team and support our Accounts Receivable and collections work. In this full-time role, you’ll help keep customer accounts accurate and up to date, follow up on outstanding balances, research billing and payment questions, and provide clear, respectful service to our customers.
You’ll work closely with Operations, Sales, Billing, and other Finance team members to resolve account issues, support timely collections, and create a positive customer experience. This opportunity is a great fit for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable communicating by phone and email, and eager to grow their accounting knowledge. Requirements
- Support daily Accounts Receivable activities by monitoring customer accounts and outstanding balances.
- Connect with customers by phone and email regarding past-due invoices, outstanding balances, and payment status, always communicating with professionalism, clarity, and respect.
- Research billing, invoice, payment, and account discrepancies, partnering with Billing and Operations to find practical, customer-friendly solutions.
- Maintain accurate notes and documentation regarding customer communications and collection activity.
- Review customer account balances and assist with account reconciliations.
- Prepare and distribute customer statements and other account-related correspondence as needed.
- Help identify overdue accounts, document collection concerns, and involve the appropriate team members when additional support is needed.
- Maintain accurate customer account information and supporting documentation.
- Assist with month-end Accounts Receivable activities and reporting.
- Provide responsive, thoughtful customer service while following company collection procedures and helping customers understand next steps.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; accounting coursework or an associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is a plus.
- Accounts Receivable or customer service experience is helpful, but we also welcome candidates with transferable skills and a strong interest in learning.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating with customers by phone and email.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow up consistently and manage multiple priorities.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- A positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning new accounting systems and company processes.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, freight forwarding, or a related industry is welcome, but it is not required.
Physical Requirements
