The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) at Iowa State University is seeking a part-time Research Scientist II to support federally funded research and evaluation projects focused on occupational safety training, participant engagement, and program effectiveness.
In this role, you will coordinate training and participant activities that are directly connected to a funded project. You will coordinate data collection activities, maintain data and quality assurance processes, assist with analyzing and interpreting project outcomes, and write reports, and grant-related activities. You will also serve as a resource to project participants, project personnel, and external partners.
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to applied projects that connect occupational safety training, program evaluation, and occupational safety and health. The successful candidate will work with a significant degree of independence under general supervision while collaborating with faculty, researchers, students, project staff, and external partners.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate instructor-led OSHA regulations training and related activities, including scheduling, logistics, participant rosters, attendance, training materials, and accessibility needs.
- Coordinate participant recruitment, eligibility screening, registration, and communication for research and evaluation projects.
- Provide guidance and instruction to project participants, partners, and project personnel regarding training technologies, project expectations, data collection, and documentation standards.
- Coordinate the collection, verification, and maintenance of research and program evaluation data, applying quality assurance processes to support data accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
- Maintain project databases and reporting systems and identify issues or opportunities to improve data collection, documentation, and project implementation processes.
- Assist with analyzing and interpreting program evaluation data and project outcomes, identifying trends and using findings to recommend improvements to training, methodologies, and procedures.
- Compile and summarize findings and project data for technical reports, presentations, grant-related materials, and funding agency requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in engineering, occupational safety, public health, education, or a related technical field.
- Experience developing, coordinating, or delivering occupational safety or regulatory training.
- Experience working with research participants, collecting or managing research data, or supporting research projects.
- Experience using databases, spreadsheets, or other systems to maintain, review, and report project data.
- OSHA-authorized trainer or Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training (CCCHST) authorized instructor certification.
