Senior Financial Risk Officer – ALM Portfolio Management
About the role
As Senior Financial Risk Officer ALM Portfolio Management, you play a key role in the second-line oversight of Asset & Liability Management (ALM) risks across ING, covering both Retail and Wholesale Banking portfolios.
The role sits within the Banking Risk department, part of Financial Risk, and focuses on ensuring robust and consistent ALM risk management, behavioural model oversight, and portfolio steering across the Group.
You provide independent challenge to Treasury and the business on ALM-related risks, while contributing to the development of risk frameworks, behavioural models, and risk appetite steering. Through your expertise, you help ensure that ALM risks are well understood, appropriately managed, and effectively translated into senior decision-making.
Key responsibilities
Portfolio oversight and risk analysis
- Monitor and assess the ALM risk profile, including behavioural assumptions and balance sheet sensitivities
- Challenge risk drivers and emerging trends across retail and wholesale portfolios
- Support the assessment of compliance with risk appetite and identify areas requiring further investigation or escalation
Behavioural model oversight
- Review and challenge ALM behavioural models, including prepayment, savings and replication models
- Assess model assumptions, calibrations and performance monitoring
- Provide independent challenge on model usage and model outcomes
Risk framework development
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of ALM and IRRBB risk frameworks
- Support the translation of regulatory requirements into practical risk management standards
- Promote consistent application of methodologies across ING entities
Risk insight and decision support
- Perform forward-looking analyses and scenario assessments to identify key risk developments
- Support ALCO and risk committee discussions with clear and actionable risk insights
- Contribute to strategic balance sheet and risk appetite discussions
Stakeholder engagement
- Act as a trusted Financial Risk partner for Treasury, local Financial Risk teams and other stakeholders
- Collaborate across countries and functions to ensure consistent risk management practices
- Support internal and external reviews, including interactions with regulators and auditors
Your profile
- 8-12+ years of experience in Financial Risk, ALM, IRRBB, Treasury Risk or a related field within an international banking environment
- Strong understanding of balance sheet risk management, ALM frameworks and IRRBB concepts
- Experience with behavioural models such as prepayment, savings and replication models
- Solid analytical skills and the ability to assess complex balance sheet dynamics
- Ability to translate technical analyses into clear risk insights and management actions
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience working in an international environment and interacting with senior stakeholders
