CarShield is seeking a mid-level SQL Server Data Engineer to join its Data Services team. In this role, you will design and improve databases, develop reliable data solutions, optimize performance, and help maintain data flow from collection through reporting in an environment that handles data at scale.
In this role, you will:
- Design new databases and enhance existing database structures.
- Write SQL queries and Transact-SQL stored procedures to support business and technical requirements.
- Create, manage, and monitor data pipelines supporting ETL and ELT processes.
- Troubleshoot incoming issues, document root causes, and implement durable solutions.
- Improve database performance through query rewriting, indexing, and database design.
- Monitor database health and respond appropriately when systems or processes fail.
- Collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to improve data flow from collection through reporting.
- Gather, document, and implement requirements from business stakeholders.
- Continuously develop the technical knowledge and skills required for the role.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Ability to work fully on-site at CarShield's St. Peters, Missouri, office five days per week.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least four years of experience as a SQL Server Data Engineer.
- Deep understanding of SQL, database design, and normalization.
- Strong understanding of database engine internals, including buffer pools, parallelism, execution plans, and indexing.
- At least two years of experience creating, managing, and monitoring ETL or ELT data pipelines.
- Positive, proactive attitude and strong desire to learn and excel.
- Experience with C# or Python preferred.
- At least two years of experience with business intelligence tools preferred.
