Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Graduate Assistant supports the university's Marketing & Communications team through a variety of creative, strategic, and administrative marketing initiatives. This position provides hands-on experience in higher education marketing by assisting with content creation, social media, photography, videography, graphic design, campus events, marketing campaigns, and other communications projects. The Graduate Assistant will work closely with members of the marketing team while developing professional skills in branding, storytelling, digital communications, and project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, creating, and publishing content across the university's digital communication channels, including social media, web, email, and digital signage.
- Create written content such as social media captions, news stories, feature articles, promotional copy, and marketing materials.
- Capture and edit photo and video content for use in marketing campaigns and university publications.
- Assist with graphic design projects using university brand standards for print and digital communications.
- Support coverage of campus events through photography, videography, interviews, live content, and storytelling.
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team on integrated marketing campaigns that support enrollment, advancement, athletics, academics, and campus initiatives.
- Assist with organizing and maintaining marketing assets, including photos, videos, and branded materials.
- Conduct research on marketing trends, audience engagement, and higher education best practices to help inform communication strategies.
- Help monitor social media platforms and assist with scheduling content, engagement, and performance reporting as needed.
- Provide general project support for the Marketing & Communications Office, including brainstorming creative ideas, assisting with special projects, and completing administrative tasks as assigned.
- Represent the Marketing & Communications Office professionally while interacting with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.
Qualifications
- Current graduate student in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Creative thinker with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication best practices.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Microsoft Office, or similar creative software is preferred.
- Basic photography, videography, and/or video editing experience is preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends to assist with university events.
Preferred Skills
- Experience creating content for social media or digital marketing campaigns.
- Familiarity with photography, videography, and multimedia storytelling.
- Basic knowledge of branding and marketing principles.
- Interest in higher education marketing and communications.
- Ability to learn new software platforms and adapt to changing priorities.
