Bookkeeper – Permanent – based in Northampton, NN2

 

Job Purpose:

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a well-established independent firm of Chartered Accountants based in Northampton, providing accountancy, audit, tax, bookkeeping and advisory services to owner-managed businesses and SMEs across Northamptonshire and the surrounding region.

 

Due to continued growth within the bookkeeping portfolio and increasing demand for services, particularly as Making Tax Digital requirements continue to expand, the firm is looking to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper.

 

This client-facing role would suit someone who enjoys building strong relationships with business owners and becoming a trusted day-to-day contact. Full-time and part-time applications will be considered, offering flexibility for those balancing their career alongside family or other commitments.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage bookkeeping requirements for a portfolio of clients.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client bookkeeping records.
• Process purchase invoices, sales invoices and bank transactions.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Complete bank, VAT and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain client records using Xero.
• Act as the day-to-day point of contact for clients.
• Build strong client relationships through telephone, email, Teams and face-to-face communication.
• Support clients with bookkeeping queries and provide practical day-to-day guidance.
• Assist clients with Making Tax Digital requirements.
• Work closely with colleagues across the firm to deliver a high-quality client experience.

Experience:

• Minimum of five years' bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice.
• Highly proficient in Xero.
• Experience managing bookkeeping for multiple clients simultaneously.
• Proven experience preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping processes and reconciliations.
• Experience dealing directly with clients and building lasting professional relationships.
• Good understanding of Making Tax Digital requirements would be advantageous.

 

Hours of Work:

• Monday – Friday (37.5 hours)

• The role is primarily office-based, working from the firm's Northampton office.
