The incumbent is responsible to plan implement, promote, and administer recreation programs and special events. The position is responsible to assist with general registration of parks facilities and recreation programs. Supervision of recreation programs during evenings and weekends is required.
- Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
- Assists with general supervision of sports programs and associated staff and contract workers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Provide program/event management, general facility supervision of locations where sports, camps, clinics, tournaments and/or special events occur.
- Responsible for initiating and implementing marketing for assigned programs including the design of registration materials, publicity, and coordinating announcements and features for public dissemination.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for assigned program areas and/or events.
- Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling of Part-time employees and volunteers; and coordination of contract workers for events and assigned program area.
- Assist, as needed, in the administration of the parks and recreation office and provide front desk assistance to customers with registration and park information.
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining all equipment.
- Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for sports programs.
- Proficient with online facility and sports scheduling.
- Establish and create new programs.
- Collaborate with outside groups to run programs.
- Work with Maintenance Specialist Turf/Horticulturist to ensure adequately maintained and safe playing facilities.
- Supervises recreation programs during the evenings and weekends.
- Assist with other recreational programs/events, as needed.
- Establish short and long term goals and objectives for all programs managed.
- Represent the City in a positive manner, particularly while on site at event and work to resolve citizen issues and concerns at those events.
- May be required to work overtime and weekends for special program events.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience and/or training. Plus 12-18 months of management experience, or the equivalent of education and experience.
- Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within a year of hire date.
- Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and Microsoft Office including Microsoft Outlook.
- Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written often under adverse conditions,
- Possess good judgment, good powers of observation and memory.
Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, and offenses against children.
