What’s the role
As a Software Engineer within Shell’s Information & Digital Services and Operations (IDSO) organization, you will be responsible for the operation, support, governance, transition, and continuous improvement of IT-managed AI, automation, and digital services supporting Global Functions (Finance, HR, Corporate, Sites, Legal, and IRM).
This is a Service Operations & Management (SOM) role with a primary focus on service reliability, operational excellence, governance, and day-to-day support across the application and AI service lifecycle.
The role will support a growing portfolio of Generative AI, Agentic AI, automation, and digital solutions, working closely with Delivery & Engineering, platform, business teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure services are operated in a secure, compliant, maintainable, and supportable manner.
The role is expected to provide operational support across AI and digital services, including monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, service restoration, platform governance, transition into operations, and continuous improvement activities.
While the role includes hands-on engineering activities, development efforts are primarily focused on Intelligent Operations, AgentOps, automation of SOM processes, technical debt reduction, service modernization, and operational tooling.
The successful candidate will help build and scale SOM capabilities for AI-enabled solutions and drive measurable improvements in service reliability, operational efficiency, support outcomes, compliance, and successful onboarding and operation of SOM-managed services.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, develop, support, and continuously improve AI-enabled solutions, intelligent agents, automations, and digital services using Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Databricks Mosaic AI, Microsoft Power Platform, Azure Cloud, and related enterprise technologies.
- Provide operational support for AI and digital solutions, including monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, service restoration, problem management, and continuous service improvement.
- Lead technically complex workstreams and contribute to solution design, operational readiness, transition into support, service reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Support onboarding and transition of project-built and citizen-developed solutions into SOM-managed services, ensuring operability, maintainability, security, compliance, governance, and supportability requirements are met.
- Own operational excellence, service reliability, observability, and supportability across assigned SOM-managed applications, AI solutions, and services.
- Collaborate with architects, platform teams, developers, fusion teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, compliant, and support-ready solutions.
- Apply and support Generative AI and Agentic AI capabilities, including intelligent agents, retrieval-augmented solutions, enterprise copilots, and AI-driven automation use cases.
- Promote engineering excellence through DevOps, CI/CD, automation, observability, governance, and modern software engineering practices.
- Undertake hands-on engineering and development activities focused on Intelligent Operations, AgentOps, automation of SOM processes, technical debt reduction, platform modernization, application enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the operational governance, FinOps, risk management, and support readiness of AI-enabled solutions across varying levels of business criticality and risk.
- Mentor engineers and citizen developers, contribute to engineering standards and best practices, and help build support-ready, secure, and maintainable solutions across the SOM portfolio.
What we need from you
Essential
- 3-6 years of experience delivering, supporting, or enhancing AI-enabled applications, automation solutions, or digital services in an enterprise environment.
- Experience working with AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or Generative AI solutions, with exposure to intelligent agents, copilots, enterprise AI platforms, or related technologies.
- Hands-on experience designing, developing, troubleshooting, and supporting business-critical applications and services throughout their operational lifecycle.
- Understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agent orchestration, AI monitoring, evaluation, and governance concepts, with the ability to apply these principles in real-world solutions.
- Experience supporting production environments, including monitoring, incident management, problem management, root cause analysis, change management, service restoration, and continuous improvement.
- Strong understanding of operability, reliability, supportability, security, compliance, and operational readiness requirements for enterprise solutions.
- Practical experience with DevOps, CI/CD, source control, automation, and modern software engineering practices.
- Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
- Ability to mentor colleagues, influence technical decisions through expertise, and proactively identify opportunities to improve service quality and operational outcomes.
Primary Skills (Must have)
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AI, Machine Learning, Applied AI, Intelligent Automation, or Generative AI, combined with the ability to learn and support evolving enterprise AI platforms and services.
- Experience with platforms such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Databricks Mosaic AI, or comparable AI technologies is highly desirable.
- Candidates should be comfortable building, supporting, troubleshooting, and enhancing AI agents, intelligent automation solutions, and AI-enabled services, while understanding the operational, governance, and support considerations required in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated learning agility and ability to support evolving enterprise AI platforms, governance models, and AI solutions across varying levels of business criticality and risk.
Secondary Skills
- Experience with Power Platform and enterprise integration technologies is beneficial, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, APIs, Azure Functions, and Logic Apps.
- The successful candidate should be able to learn, support, and enhance solutions built on these platforms as part of a broader AI and digital services portfolio.
Nice to Have
