Salary: R50,000 – R55,000 CTC per month (+ standby allowance)
Working Conditions: On-site role within a 24/7 high-availability operations environment. Standard working hours with rotational standby/on-call duties (P1/P2 support), including weekends and public holidays. Exposure to critical incident response and after-hours support is required.

A leading BPO organisation operating multi-site, high-availability IT infrastructure environments, currently expanding and modernising its network and data centre capability.
Role Overview
Senior Network Engineer responsible for the design, implementation, and support of enterprise network infrastructure across multi-site environments. The role ensures high availability, security, and performance across all production systems, working closely with Systems Engineering and reporting directly to the CTO. This is a hands-on operational role in a 24/7 environment requiring strong technical depth, problem-solving ability under pressure, and excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise network architecture (LAN/WAN)
- VLAN design, segmentation, and inter-VLAN routing (802.1Q)
- OSPF routing configuration, optimisation, and troubleshooting
- Configure and manage Fortigate firewalls (VPN, NAT, IPS/IDS, policies, HA)
- Administer Ruijie and HP/Aruba switching environments (LACP, STP, QoS, stacking)
- Maintain network uptime, performance, and availability targets (99.99%)
- Monitor network infrastructure and proactively resolve performance issues
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on network incidents
- Support security controls including ACLs, segmentation, and zero-trust principles
- Participate in 24/7 standby/on-call rotation
- Manage ISP and vendor relationships and escalations
- Support network expansions, migrations, and upgrades
- Maintain network documentation, diagrams, IPAM, and configuration records
- Ensure change management compliance (RFC/CAB processes)
- Conduct capacity planning and performance forecasting
Requirements
- 5–6+ years Network Engineering experience in enterprise environments
- Minimum 2 years in a BPO / shared services environment
- Strong experience in 24/7 operational environments with standby duties
- Hands-on experience with VLANs, OSPF, routing, and switching
- Strong Fortigate firewall administration experience
- Experience with HP/Aruba or Ruijie switching environments
- Understanding of network security controls and segmentation
- Exposure to compliance environments (ISO 27001 / SOC 2 / PCI-DSS)
Technical Skills
- TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, STP/RSTP, LACP, QoS
- VPN technologies (IPSec / SSL VPN)
- Firewalling (Fortigate preferred)
- Switching (HP/Aruba, Ruijie)
- Network monitoring tools (PRTG, SolarWinds, Zabbix or similar)
- Packet analysis (Wireshark)
- IP addressing and IPAM tools
- Change/configuration management tools
Certifications (Advantageous)
- CCNA (required or equivalent)
- CCNP (advantageous)
- Fortinet NSE 4/5 (advantageous)

Reporting Structure
- Reports directly to Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
- Works closely with Systems Engineers, Security Team, Helpdesk, Cloud/Infrastructure teams
