Job Summary
The Systems Development Manager leads the development, integration, and ongoing support of proprietary and partner-integrated software systems used across Brooks Construction. The role oversees the software development lifecycle, aligns technical solutions with business needs, and ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to established quality standards.
Working with Brooks leaders and internal stakeholders, the Manager provides both technical and people leadership, establishes effective development practices and processes, evaluates technology solutions, and fosters a collaborative and innovative team focused on delivering reliable, high-quality software solutions.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Ensures software projects are delivered on time, within budget and scope, and in accordance with established quality standards.
- Oversees the integration of proprietary systems with partner platforms and third-party services.
- Prioritizes end-user support of existing proprietary software and integrations, including break-fix, training, and regular maintenance.
- Leads, mentors, trains, and develops the software development team, providing regular feedback, coaching, goal setting, and career development guidance.
- Oversees workload distribution, performance management, project priorities, and resource allocation across the development team.
- Fosters a collaborative, innovative, and growth-oriented team environment and encourages knowledge sharing across functions.
- Coordinates with internal stakeholders to define business requirements, project scope, objectives, priorities, and deliverables.
- Creates and maintains documentation of technical development as well as end-user support.
- Trains end users, including both technical and non-technical audiences, on the proper use of systems.
- Evaluates market solutions and recommends tools, frameworks, and methodologies that support business needs and improve development processes.
- Establishes and maintains best practices for code management, version control, and user acceptance testing.
- Provides hands-on technical guidance, oversight, and problem-solving support as needed.
- Collaborates with company leadership to develop and implement technology strategies and ensure technical decisions align with business objectives and long-term goals.
- Stays current on emerging technologies and industry trends and identifies opportunities to improve systems, processes, and development practices.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of professional software development experience.
- Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including Agile or other delivery frameworks, DevOps, cloud-based architectures, user acceptance testing (UAT), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with integrated systems and third-party partnerships.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, event-driven architecture, and cloud services preferred.
- Proficiency with PHP (CodeIgniter), Python (Tkinter), JavaScript, jQuery, and front-end technologies (HTML/CSS) preferred.
- Experience using Node.js for real-time functionality, WebSockets, and scheduled background tasks (Web Cron) preferred.
- Experience with MS SQL and MySQL, including stored procedures, triggers, indexing, and performance optimization, preferred.
- Experience supporting Linux and Windows server environments and working with terminal/command-line operations, FTP, ODBC configuration, and Excel data integrations preferred.
- Experience developing or integrating RESTful APIs and third-party systems preferred; familiarity with Visual Basic and legacy systems is a plus.
- Experience within construction, logistics, or a related industry is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching.
- Ability to lift and carry computer or office equipment as needed.
Working Environment
- This position is fully on-site and requires regular in-person attendance; remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.
- Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment.
- Regular interaction with internal departments, end users, vendors, and external technology partners.
- Work is typically performed during standard business hours; however, additional hours may be required for support and/or during system implementations, critical issues, or peak periods.
- Fast-paced environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business and technology needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages the software development team and is responsible for workload assignment, performance management, coaching, and professional development of direct reports.
