Head of IT

Head of IT | Portsmouth (Hybrid) | £80,000 – £100,000 DOE + Car Allowance 

A fantastic client of ours, a leader in the waste industry, is looking for a Head of IT to join their team early next year. This is your opportunity to lead the IT function, shape strategy, and drive projects that directly impact the business. You’ll manage a small team, work across functions, and be part of a fast-moving, growing SME. This role is perfect for an entrepreneurial, hands-on individual who thrives on building strong relationships internally and with clients, while taking ownership of IT infrastructure, systems, security, and data management, and playing a crucial role within the leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead IT strategy to support business growth and operations

• Advise the leadership team on practical, commercially-minded IT solutions

• Manage and develop a small IT team

• Oversee IT infrastructure, systems, websites, apps, integrations, and migrations

• Plan and deliver IT projects and system upgrades

• Identify opportunities to automate and improve processes

• Maintain IT security, data protection, and compliance

• Manage IT budgets and related financial planning

• Build strong relationships with suppliers, partners, and internal stakeholders

• Represent the business positively, demonstrating leadership and collaboration

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical-related field (preferred), or equivalent experience

• Evidence of professional development, relevant certifications, or BCS membership

• Proven experience in a leadership role

• Experience in building and managing IT budgets

• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, and data protection

• Skilled in managing complex projects, system upgrades, CRM migrations, and integrations

• Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders

• Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision and immediate priorities

• Able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively

• Collaborative, adaptable, and solutions-focused

• Full UK driver’s license

Additional Information
• £80,000–£100,000 DOE + car allowance + benefits
• Hybrid working – flexible, with approximately three days on site
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including early and late shifts, as required by the nature of the business and the role
