Description
Reporting to the Head of Product Development, you will take ownership of software testing and test automation for the organisation’s core enterprise planning product. The role combines hands-on functional testing, regression testing and release testing with responsibility for building a more automated, repeatable QA approach. Working within an IBM Planning Analytics environment, you will develop a deep understanding of product behaviour, configurations, calculations, workflows and data dependencies.
A major focus will be designing and implementing automated regression testing. You will assess the current QA environment, determine what should be automated, recommend appropriate automation frameworks and test-management tools, and build the scripting and test coverage needed to reduce repetitive manual testing. You will also strengthen test data and environments, investigate defects and assess IBM Planning Analytics platform updates for product impact.
Over time, you will establish a scalable quality engineering approach that improves release confidence, identifies defects earlier and allows developers to spend more time building product capability. You will also explore practical uses of AI-assisted testing and continue evolving automation as the product and underlying platform change.
Responsibilities
- Own functional, regression and release testing across product changes and software releases
- Design and build automated regression testing to improve coverage and reduce manual effort
- Assess and select suitable test automation frameworks, test-management tools and supporting QA technologies
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and repeatable test scenarios across data-intensive product functionality
- Review IBM Planning Analytics updates and identify areas requiring regression or compatibility testing
- Investigate defects, edge cases, data issues and configuration-specific system behaviour
- Improve test data, test environments and testing processes to strengthen product assurance
- Provide clear, evidence-based reporting on defects, quality risks and release readiness
- Partner with product development stakeholders to embed effective QA and automation practices
- Explore AI-assisted testing techniques that improve analysis, coverage and testing efficiency
Candidate Profile
You have independently owned software product testing from change through to release and bring strong capability across functional testing, regression testing, release testing and test automation. Experience testing financial planning, EPM, ERP or another data-intensive business application is essential, along with enough understanding of budgeting, forecasting and planning to validate calculations, workflows, data and permissions. You also bring proven scripting and automation capability and can build or extend automated test coverage.
You are analytical and comfortable challenging software beyond expected user paths, identifying edge cases, configuration issues and unexpected system behaviour. You communicate defects and quality risks clearly, work constructively with developers and technical stakeholders, and can provide credible release-readiness advice. Importantly, you can balance strong quality standards with practical delivery and introduce greater QA discipline without creating unnecessary process.
Experience with IBM Planning Analytics/TM1, Anaplan, Pigment or another EPM platform would be highly regarded. Exposure to Python, Jira, GitHub, Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Postman, Tricentis Tosca, Xray, Zephyr or comparable automation and test-management tools is beneficial, as is practical experience with AI-assisted testing. A relevant technology degree or testing certification is also desirable.
Company, Culture & Benefits
This enterprise software organisation develops sophisticated planning and reporting products within a collaborative, technically capable environment. The culture encourages experimentation, constructive challenge and practical improvement, giving you genuine scope to shape test automation and QA while working directly with product and technical leadership.
- Flexible hybrid working across Australia, with Australia's East Coast location preferred
- Own and build the test automation and QA capability
- Work with IBM Planning Analytics, modern testing tools and AI-assisted testing practices
