Overview

A national, award-winning interdisciplinary architecture, engineering, and design practice is seeking a Job Captain to join its San Jose interior design team. The studio pairs design excellence with technical rigor across workplace, community, science and technology, and other complex project types. This hybrid role works in the office three days per week and offers the opportunity to collaborate with architects, designers, engineers, and project managers in an integrated environment.

Position Description

The Job Captain will help translate project goals into thoughtful, functional design solutions and coordinated documentation. The role partners closely with Project Architects, Designers, and Project Managers through design, documentation, and construction administration while supporting strong client service and high-quality project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Support development of design concepts, technical design, and construction documents across project phases.

• Help carry design intent accurately through detailed documentation and coordination.

• Coordinate architectural, interior, and engineering systems with consultants and internal disciplines.

• Advance schematic design, design development, and construction document drawings and specifications in alignment with scope, schedule, cost, and design intent.

• Review project documents for applicable building codes, planning and zoning requirements, and authority-having-jurisdiction standards.

• Review shop drawings, material samples, and construction documents for conformance with the design.

• Support construction administration, including RFIs, RFPs, change orders, and field coordination.

• Participate in client meetings, presentations, and consultant coordination while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

• Research building technologies, materials, and systems and contribute creative, well-documented solutions.

• Meet project milestones with consistent attention to detail, quality, and collaboration.

Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or related program.

• 5–7 years of professional experience on small- to large-scale projects.

• Experience with tenant improvements and core-and-shell work.

• Strong graphic, presentation, communication, time-management, and interpersonal skills.

• Revit proficiency is required; working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, project-management software, and Microsoft Office is expected.

• Ability to travel to job sites as project needs require.
