Job Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's Department of History seeks applications for a three-year term Assistant Professor of Instruction in US History, starting in August 2027. This faculty member will teach and develop courses in the Department of History as assigned, including introductory and general education courses at the undergraduate level and graduate coursework for the department’s fully online MA program. The successful candidate's workload will include teaching and service obligations. Faculty resources, including office space with computer and printer and library privileges, will be provided to support teaching and research.  

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in US History by start of employment; a record of success in teaching at the college level; evidence of effective teaching in courses on environmental history, sustainability, and the history of Iowa; and strong communication skills required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of effective instruction in both in-person and online modalities; experience in teaching graduate students; and specialty in modern US history preferred.
