CDL A Local Grocery Driver - Support Fleet

The distribution center is in Chester, NY, but you do not have to be. On our support fleet you start and finish every day at our East Brunswick yard, run local grocery routes and come home every night. We are hiring CDL A drivers who live in Central New Jersey.

Why This Route Works

• Local Yard: report to East Brunswick, not upstate New York
• Home Daily: routes stay within 250 miles and end back at the yard
• Mostly No Touch: store teams unload, you assist
• City Driving Comes Later: only 20 to 25% of loads go into NYC, and never in your first 6 months on the account
• NYC Training: before any city route, you ride with a certified NYC trainer
• Newer Trucks: day cabs averaging 3 years old or newer

Pay

• Weekly Minimum: $1,634 per week when you work your full 5 day schedule
• Average Earnings: $83,600 to $87,600 a year over the last 6 to 12 months, based on seniority
• Mileage: $0.68 to $0.74 per mile
• Stops: $28.50 to $30 per stop, $62.50 extra per NYC load
• Detention: $15 per hour
• Holiday Pay: $280 per day, 6 paid holidays
• Training Pay: $200 per day as a new hire

Schedule

• Weekend Wrap: Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday
• Start Times: 9 AM to 1 PM
• 6th Days: 2 paid per month, mostly around the 6 major holidays
• Off: Thanksgiving and Christmas

The Work

• Fresh and frozen groceries in 48 to 53 foot reefers for supermarkets and distribution centers
• New Jersey, Hudson Valley and Connecticut, with backhauls that can reach Pennsylvania
• 2 loads a day or one long load, about 15 or more stops per week
• Pick up returns at the last stop or a backhaul to the distribution center
• 2 to 3 days per week supporting nearby accounts, occasionally with a pallet jack (training provided)
• Automatic and manual day cabs, shared with an opposite shift driver and kept at the yard
• Uniforms provided and maintained for you

Requirements

• At least 21 years old with a valid Class A CDL
• 3 months verifiable tractor-trailer experience in the last 6 months with one carrier, 6 months in the last 12 months, or 12 months in the last 5 years
• Reliable transportation to the East Brunswick yard every day
• Strong customer service skills
• No more than 2 moving violations and no careless or reckless driving in the last 3 years
• No DUI/DWI in 5 years and no major preventable accidents in 3 years
• Must pass hair and urine drug testing
