Facilities Technician

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair tasks. Incumbents in this job classification perform maintenance and mechanical duties for related facilities, furnishings, and equipment. The required duties include HVAC, painting, plumbing, electrical, and roofing. A general knowledge of equipment machine maintenance is required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.  
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.  
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.  
• Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.  
• Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.  
• Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers or obtain them from storerooms.  
• Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.  
• Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other parts of building structures.  
• Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.  
• Perform electrical work, including repairing or replacing switches and wiring and other site electrical issues.  
• Manage and maintain heating and cooling systems.  
• Repair building structures, including installing shelving, repairing equipment, and repairing roofing.  
• Paint building interiors and other items as needed.  
• Assist with building ground maintenance and lawn care as needed.  
• Operate forklifts, golf carts, and other mechanical equipment needed for work completion.  
• Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and repairs as needed.

Desired Work Experience:

6+ years

 

 

Education/Experience:

HVAC experience preferred. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude required. Must be able to effectively utilize hand and power tools.

Certificates and Licenses:

√   Valid Driver’s License

 

√   Forklift certification

 

√   ESCO EPA 410A certification

 

√   Lock Out/Tag Out training and certification

 

√   Trade License preferred but not required

 

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills needed.

Communication Skills:

Requires strong communication skills and ability to interact well with others.

 

Attendance Expectations:

The position requires regular and predictable attendance.  Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays. This position can not be performed remotely.

 

Physical Demands:

Requires vision (distance, depth) and the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – safety glasses. Constantly stands, walks, manually manipulates, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Frequently reaches outward, reaches above shoulder, climbs, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 40 pounds. Occasionally sits, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls over 100 pounds.

 

 Environment Demands:

Frequently works indoors and outdoors, depending on the assignment.
